it's going to be nice when we finally get that influx of workers back on that block. I wonder if it will employ more people?

I definitely think that this building will draw more people and therefore be better for the downtown economy than the school board was.

^I hadn't noticed the gardens - nice touch.

I do wonder what effect, if any, it'll have on the economy; I'm a bit skeptical, really. It definitely has a nice aesthetic impact on the area, however. It's a shame so few will see it hurtling past in one direction at speeds too great to notice.

A few night shots from last night:
**Security is pretty tight around the site at night**

All Photos are mine.

Thanks! I'm getting into song long exposure photography of the city at night. There are so many talented photographers out there showcasing this city in creative ways - I aspire to do the same!

This entire section of Main is so awesome looking at night!

That last shot is amazing. Doesn't even look like Hamilton.

It really doesn't! The Hamilton I grew up knowing downtown was pretty quiet and dark at night. There is a lot of creative lighting on the architecture in the city. I really love the density right by city hall now. I ca't wait for Mac to be complete in the front to take some better shots of it.

It's nice that there is development in Hamilton. But, I find this building to be a bit too "suburban" for my tastes.

It's interesting. Materials, colors, shapes. That's something I think the core needs a bit more of. I agree it does have a bit of a more low-key 'suburban' feel to it at a distance, but considering it's a family hospital it makes sense.
If anything, I'd say more height would give it more presence. I just love the different window sizes.

^If the suburbs had buildings like that, well, they wouldn't be the suburbs I suppose.

I felt the same way when construction first started but as it went up I noticed how intimate with the sidewalk it is, the glass podium also gives it an urban feel. Kinda looks like something you'd find on University Avenue in Toronto. It's not a bad design.

I stopped by that corner yesterday - it does really change the street (along with Vranich's buildings on the west side of Bay). I can't wait to get a first-hand look inside.

Now to build something on the NW corner of Main/Bay, and replace the truly suburban BMO branch on the SW with a building more appropriate to downtown.

If there is a corner in the city that needed height, it is that corner. I'm not big on filling the city with supertalls, but i'd love if Hamilton had a more modern pinnacle in the sky. Landmark place is not the prettiest thing.

I adore this building. My friend and I walked around it and talked to the evening security guard who has watched the whole building go up from the security trailer. He was saying that they're finishing the landscaping within three weeks, and after that they're going to construct an elevated walkway from the back of the building to the plaza behind the art gallery. Thought that sounded super cool, and might help stir up some traffic to that otherwise desolate area.

I also think the glass atrium at the front is particularly snazzy.

That elevated walkway is a GREAT idea. I'm working in one of the towers in Jackson square and lots of people use the courtyard in the centre on lunch. The art gallery plaza could be a hot spot for lunch time traffic for the new medical buidling.
