I saw several storefronts with old permits taped to the windows where no activity was evident.
1487,

The Southwest corner of Race and 2nd (1 story appliance vendor next to Race street café) sold I think last month. Can't remember where I saw the renderings but they weren't terrible. 5 story with ground floor retail. it replaces 2 extremely ugly buildings. I was hoping that Race street café would buy that spot and expand. Oh well.

218 Arch is good news if you don't live next to the hole. I know of 2 families with little kids that have moved out due to the noise. They've been working that lot for a good 2 months and I can't see any progress whatsoever. I think it's a TON of foundation fortifying. hopefully they'll get to the steel at some point soon.

2nd street will HAVE to see those store fronts filled up with all the capacity coming online.

Here's the link to the SW corner of 2nd and Race development: http://www.philly.com/philly/busines..._Old_City.html

And while there are still vacancies on 2nd and 3rd streets, there has been a LOT of work recently on fixing up some of the more underutilized buildings. Very excited to see how the neighborhood fills in over these next few years, especially with 4th and Callowhill looming.

I hope it looks as good as the original rendering.

Nov 4th:

For those that follow all the Philadelphia threads, do I have one of the greatest office locations or what?

Yes, hook me up. I am stuck in a sprawling office park in Ewing, NJ. Its a lovely drive this time of year with the changing colors, but I miss working at 1818 Market and those views.

If you're an expert in SQL, have a degree in Operations Research or are APICS certified, hit me up. Alternatively, the suite next door to us is the head office for the Pennsylvania Ballet, so if you ever were in the bolshoi you could go that route, too.

I know this may sound weird, but the "Orange" was kind of growing on me.

I don't think this building looks as good as everyone says it does.

Yes, the shape/built form/program is awesome.

But the cladding is just generic cladding you'd find on an office building.

Hopefully I'm wrong.

We haven't even begun to really see the cladding:

Unfortunately the glass and mullions that are installed are a completely different color than the rendering. The glass and mullions are much darker than the what the rendering indicates.

This is true. Between Chicago, New York, and other cities that have some really cool designs, this wouldn't even be in the list as something unique.
It is definitely "out of the box" for Philly, and you're right. The cladding is hopefully going to match the rendering more than what it is now.
.....OH, and one last thing, (without sounding too 1919ish) I wish it were taller!

It's hard to tell whether they're actually different from or darker than what was depicted in the original renderings. Photorealistic rendering software can do funny things with shadows and reflections that can somewhat distort what some may see in them. For example, here's another one of the original renderings in which, to my eyes, the glass and mullions look more similar to what has been installed:

I've found through the years, though, that you can't really judge the appearance of a building until you see it completely finished with all of the design elements in place, in the actual context of its surroundings.

To be fair, our billboard decided to match our building for Halloween.
