found old news, but very informative

RM670m building in KL to be completed by 2013
Joseph Kaos Jr
Tuesday, July 7th, 2009 06:32:00

KUALA Lumpur welcomes another skyscraper into the club as the Naza Group of Companies unveiled Naza Tower, its 50-storey office tower, at its ground breaking ceremony yesterday.

The ceremony, officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, was held at the 9.1 acre Platinum Park development site in Jalan Stonor.

The tower, costing RM670.9 million, will measure 272.6 metres in height and is to become the group's new headquarters once it is completed in 2013.

Naza Group chairman SM Nasarudin SM Nasimudin said: "The 50-storey office tower represents the achievements and successes of the Naza Group." Interestingly, Nasarudin describes the Naza Tower as a "green building". In his speech, he said the building is designed to be environmentally friendly through the efficient use of energy, water and materials.

"It will be among the first candidates to apply for a Green mark certification under the newly launched Green Building Index of Malaysia," said Nasarudin.

A 38-storey office tower of the same design will be built beside the Naza Tower and will share a common podium and basement.

Naza Tower is one out of the seven towers in Platinum Park, an integrated high-end residential and commercial development located in Kuala Lumpur City Centre.

The proposed seven towers are two condominiums, a serviced apartment, a five-star hotel and three Grade A office towers.

Costing RM4 billion, the project is developed by Naza TTDI Sdn Bhd, a fully-owned subsidiary of the group.

The architects for the development are Foster and Partners and RSP Akitek. The project is expected to be fully
completed in 2018, when all seven proposed buildings are finished.

Of the seven, the first tower to be sold out is the 50-storey Menara Felda, bought by the Federal Land Development Authority in January last year.

Tower one of the city’s tallest

ONCE completed in 2013, the 50-storey Naza Tower, 272.6 metres in height, will become the city's third tallest skyscraper, replacing the 243.5m Menara Maybank in Jalan Tun Perak.

However, this ranking is only made possible if the tower is measured from the bottom floor all the way to the top of its mast. Without its mast, Naza Tower will only be 215.5m high, making it No 5 behind Menara Maybank and the 238.1m Empire Tower on Jalan Tun Razak.

The tallest skyscraper in Kuala Lumpur is the Petronas Twin Towers at 452m, followed by Menara TM at 310m. Although Menara Kuala Lumpur stands 421m, it is not included as it is a communications tower.

According to the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat, only a building with at least 50 per cent of its
height made up of floor plates containing habitable floor area can be considered "buildings".

Structures that do not meet this criterion, such as Menara Kuala Lumpur and Toronto's CN Tower, are considered towers.
