WINNIPEG: A lil' downtown mix. Word!

Here's a few shots from around central Winnipeg today. It was a bit overcast and I'm a bit of a shitty photographer. But it was still nice to get out for a while. This Sunday there wasn't much activity going on downtown, but rest assured when the warmer weather hits I'll be out with a camera like a skirt chasin', drag racing hardcore motherfucker with a taste for crime.

Without further ado -

Aztec meets Dr. Seuss:

Bus shelter at the ass end of the UofW:

Lonely Balconies:

What a view!

From left to right: Flagship Hudson Bay store, Manitoba Legislative Building, Winnipeg Art Gallery. Some of my shots are bit blurred, but that's the price I pay as the world's paramount Pogo Stick Photographer (PSP):

Reminds me a lil' of Dusseldorf or something:

A touch of diversity:

The fella on the left reminds me a tad of a library on Wabash in Chicago:

My internet is running slower than a suicidal, semi comatose snail on morphine with a Valium chaser:

The Inner City:

This is a photo I like to call "7219/7103601591_7b8787903b_z.jpg:"

My greenhouse:

Self Portrait:

This photograph has been brought to you in part by counterfeit Viagra, givin' kick to your stick since 1993:

Portage Place Mall, an 80s revitalization project in dire need of revitalization:

The northwest fringe of downtown:

The Manitoba Hydro Building is in the background; it's our newest important highrise downtown, completed in 2008, I believe. The spine on the front is actually a solar chimney:

The Ghost Tree, as somebody may have once called it:

Not sure why I included this shot. Here's 3.6 seconds of your life you'll never get back:

Centennial Park 'hood:

Going to this church is a deeply touching experience. If you're a boy, and under the age of 11:

I want to say that this church dates from 1882, but I could be a bit off, as I was too lazy to walk to the front of the building to read the sign:

I enjoy this:

It was at a pad around here that I learned that showing up at a "BYOB" party with a shopping bag full of barbiturates is in bad taste:

Typical downtown shot:

Perhaps it's nothin' special, but I've always liked this guy:

S'more from a parking lot the size of Baltimore:

Graham Avenue, a major transit hub:

Here's a thing:

Across the street from where Bruce Wayne's parents were murdered. True story:

From atop the pad of our hilariously shitty underground mall:

Did I mention how slow my computer was a runnin'? At this rate 1764 new buildings will top out before I've finished uploading this shit:

South East corner of Portage and Main:

Main Street lookin' Eastish:

Bank of Cairo:

Main Street looking Northish, if you're into that sort of thing:

I can dig it:

II:

The refurbished Avenue Building, partly obscured by a tree that I have since cut down:

Some Portage Avenue Action:

Winnipeg's current tallest (foreground):

To satiate my countless fans who have begged for a photo of a mundane alley:

This is also a street:

An Earth Day march. Nobody seemed receptive about my development of a coal powered sedan:

This was the first place I lol'd as your ex-gf omg'd:

This pole (mused the priest) ruins everything:

Least but not last:

Well, that's what today looked like. If you would like to see tomorrow, please contact Christopher Lloyd:

Thanks for taking the time to browse my photography of dubious quality. Word!

Nice...don't see much Winnipeg. Also...it's not all that far from Minneapolis, but it looks like you are pretty much a month behind us in terms of greening up...hardly any green at all yet there!

Yeah, I don't think many people have planted stuff in their gardens yet here. Still a lot of unraked leaves in the yards.... Yet I suspect in the next couple of weeks this will change.

'The refurbished Avenue Building, partly obscured by a tree that I have since cut down:'

That made my day. Lovely little city you are peggy.

Fun tour. Love the commentary. It looks like Winnipeg has a nice mix of old and new around downtown. Is that accurate?

Thanks for the comments!

Oh, and yes, Winnipeg does have a pretty great mix of old and new buildings (though to be honest most of us folks here wish we had a few more new ones).

Our largest "boom" to date lasted from around the 1880s to the 1920s, and most of the elaborate architecture downtown comes from this period. Give us another decade though.... I suspect our skyline might change a little!

I award this thread my coveted "seal of approval". Your seal will be arriving by FedEx shortly and, as Seal Laureate, you will be responsible for feeding it 24 meals of fish each day.

Thanks, fern.

And to Andy6 - I'm honoured to receive your much sought after and famed seal of approval. However, I'm not sure I'm qualified to be Seal Laureate, given my past history with seals. Ya see, my grandpappy always used to say that seal clubbing was for pussies, and I was hence raised into a long line of Seal Stranglers....

Here's a couple more from Winnipeg: the most important city in the greater Winnipeg area!

Most are from in and around the Exchange District:

It's a nifty area:

Not a church:

'Twas a splendid day for a jaunt:

Remnants of a glorious time:

Yep:

I'm one of the guys in the middle. Never thought I'd say that again:

Typical Exchange street:

Ye Olde Balcony:

Not the worst parkade in the world:

I always feel compelled to shoot the same angle of this building because it trips me out:

My favorite building in the city. It's better looking than your girlfriend:

Taken while making shady deal on top of parkade:

Apparently 'parkade' isn't a word, but I'll be damned if I'm going to edit anything:

This is kind of a shitty shot, but hey:

I've often wondered what Ricoh was, but never wondered enough to look it up:

This is also a picture:

I can dig it:

This is perhaps the most boring revamp project yet:

Blocks:

This is a better re-clad job:

Here's one for the children:

Broadway; I'm assuming it's named after the street in Minot, SD:

An old jail. Rumor has it this was the execution site of the last city dream:

Memorial Boulevard:

A mix:

My crib:

This kinda shit always makes me think of Batman's Gotham:

I forget why they call it Memorial Boulevard:

If you've made it this far through my shoddy photography I applaud you:

Nifty:

Well that was simply delightful. Thanks for tuning in!

Until next time, remember not to take mescaline before long business flights, and stay of the moors during the full moon.
