Looking at the Panoramic photo of Southern Waterfront above, does anyone else think the Ross Island Bridge should be turned into the Ross Island Tunnel? Or at least rebuilt so that it returns to street grade much sooner on the west side of the River?

I realize this would be a very expensive proposition, but it seems like the value of the land there would be much greater if there wasn't a bridge bisecting it.

Yeah, PSU would never have anything down there, besides the fact that the college owns plenty of land to expand around its campus for many years to come. It has buying a few buildings on the northern end of the college as well as alot of buildings all the way to to University Place, which they also own.

The only reason why I say PSU would never do anything down in south waterfront if given the chance is because when the architecture department was looking for a temporary home and was looking at some unique places in the city, like the Customs building, the school shot it down because they were all too far from campus.

I am happy to see that OHSU has selected a grid like plan to keep with some form of urban connection to the rest of that area. I just wish massive construction was going on there now....waiting is always the crappy part. I would like to see them sell of some of the land and push for a more mixed development, so as it is not just the college there. But I think for SoWa to work, it is going to need their site to start developing.

Its funny, it is starting to become its own little city down there....granted it is a city of overpriced condos, but rich people need a place to live too.

Just a few photos I took a while ago that won't show up in any of my "Portland Neighborhood Tour" threads...

Thanks guys. It's a very photogenic city. I doubt I do it justice with my shitty camera and sub-amateur photography skills, but it's fun to try and it's a good way to get to know the city. Speaking of which, I have a new neighborhood tour almost set - this one is Buckman in the central eastside, and I have a ton of pics, so I think it may be a two-parter.

ForAteOh -- Those are beautiful shots! You oughta post them in the My City Photos section. I agree MarkDaMan with you on the Ringlers Annex corner, such a great intersection. I love that building. Hope the former Silverado block becomes something beautiful.

One quick flick I took on Friday. Just off Germantown Rd in Forest Park (photo was edited a bit).

New neighborhood tour will be up tomorrow or Monday in the My City Photos section - Multnomah Village this time. Not as urban, so I'm not sure how well received the thread will be.

I f'in love Forest Park in the winter...

I've described Forest Park to my Phoenix friends as a South Mountain Park smothered with trees and streams...glad you've found it.

^ Nice pic! And taken only 1 hour 13 minutes after mine? ...I take it you haven't corrected for daylight savings. Funny how there was only a 13 minute difference when we snapped those photos.

I just posted a photo thread of the St. Johns/Cathedral Park neighborhood in the City Photos page (link).

Here are some bonus photos of the bridge...
