I wanted to believe you are attempting to be facetious, but the constant fanticizing about something that isn't going to happen is annoying. I think they are building the base for the window washing boom crane at the top of the centerpiece. That's why it's supported so well.

I think it's pretty clear this is the top. Looks like they are putting in horizontal beams for some kind of roof or decking. I guess they will wait until they have finished the framing to hold a ceremony.

A view from the west in the Civic Center. This is the best that my camera can do - it is about 1-1/2 miles from the building. I think the steel should be in place for this level by the end of next week.

Easy now, can't knock anyone for their enthusiasm and longing for an observation deck on a San Francisco supertall. Obviously, this isn't in the cards for SFT, but you never know what the future may bring. I'm very grateful for this boom of significant SF skyscraper activity and never dreamed we'd have a supertall in the first place!

^^I would like to have a deck as much as anyone but I totally understand why from the building owners' and developers' point of view--and probably their tenants--it would be totally a pain in the posterior in spite of the arguments from some here that certain famous buildings like the Empire State and Sears Tower (whatever they call it now) make money from it. As supertalls become more numerous, it seems likely that decks on them will become less of a draw--I can remember when the Empire State was virtually the only one and going to (near) the top was getting as far from Earth's surface as one could get without an airplane. I did it as a little kid.

Anyway, rather than repetitively complaining here that this or that building doesn't have one, I repeat that San Francisco does have a law that new buildings have to have "public open space" and it's not uncommon to put it inside and sometimes above ground level. Therefore, the way to realize this fantasy is probably to write the Planning Commission and attend hearings when new buildings are being considered to lobby for the required open space to be at the top (or at least a high level) of the building.

Looking forward to see what the crown will look like at night. It would be cool if the inner forms were also visible and looked almost like a steel cage within the crown.

All i can say....
I brought this up a couple of times over the past year--not daily or weekly. I totally contained myself by withholding my petition drive. I would also suggest that my tone was totally innocuous.

Coincidentally, John King of the Chronicle just wrote a story about it-- you know? he used the old press pass and got a tour of the crown. i am sure
he was not really interested and was forced at gunpoint.

IMHO, since we are days from Top Out, the building will dominate the landscape for years. Sorry to be contrary, it will generate tons of interest.

If anyone feels this building can't, wasn't or wont be structured as a viewing platform,
one can only look to "Top of the Rock" in Manhattan where
the owners converted the top levels for public viewing. It was never intended for such a purpose. But then again, where there is a will (and a $buck$), there is a way." It's now one of the biggest tourist spots in Manhattan.

For anyone annoyed, I also propose a big spire + flag so that the building will be "tallest in the west"---well, at least for a couple of years. (see attached by me).

What's the point of this forum if we can't "Discuss"?

I heard they were going to shoot a column of pulsating water vapor out of the center of the roof that will be lit up with white light. Or maybe I just imagined it.
