Apple is trying new ‘community’ based concepts for their new stores. This could be why they are keeping it hush hush - probably going to be the first such store in the state with this new feature. IIRC, this included things like amphitheaters and other gathering spaces other than for selling product.

Hey Scottsdale/PV!

Congrats on the new Ritz Carlton breaking ground, gonna be great! This seems a little underground (for now at least), but an Edition hotel, a close to carbon copy of the W Scottsdale, is prepping for the site across from the W, on the waterfront. https://brewaz.com/articles/edition-...el-scottsdale/ There is a paywall, if anyone's subscribed!

Also I did some digging and found the plans filed with the city. Some pretty neat, albeit square and boring, designs. http://eservices.scottsdaleaz.gov/pl..._6_DR_2018.pdf

Nevertheless, cool to see Scottsdale's getting more attention from upscale brands.

This bothers me. The first time I got drunk at a restaurant in 1996 was at don and charlies, fond memories. I was not booted, though to this day I wonder why.

One of the higher ups at the Medieval Times restaurant company said they'll be bringing a location to Phoenix on reddit the other day, and someone dug up this possible rendering on google listing the location as Scottsdale. The reddit comment said the project should be done some time in 2019. http://www.whiting-turner.com/news/n.../images/01.jpg

I think as long as they put it in a touristy spot and not some far off corner of the valley, it'll do well here. It's a shame the cost is around $60-70 per person though. Here's the link to the reddit comment: https://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/commen...or_of/duuzau3/

SkySong hotel crane evaluation has been completed. Looks this should get moving soon. 180' for the crane, so that should put the hotel around 150' or so. Looking forward to this project. Will add a little bit of height to South Scottsdale.

That’s not a tower crane going up. If it were it’d be up longer than five months.

It sounds if anything like a boom crane and those tend to be much taller for much shorter buildings then tower cranes.

In any event, I don’t really think it’s possible to deduce that we have a 140 foot building going up over there. It would also seem that if it were that tall, there might be a permanent obstruction evaluation rather than a temporary one.

Last year, the city approved a 5 story Element Hotel for that parcel.

Yea, my mistake on the height of the building. I was thinking of different hotel project around 10 floors and mixed them up. But this is for the hotel posted above. Not sure about the timeline, but it's going to take much longer than 5 months.

Can't wait to see SkySong be nearly fully developed. When I first moved here it was just 1 building and the canopy. I could see it from my apartment balcony and thought how cool it looked.

Actually, now I'm a little confused on this. I thought originally it was supposed to be 6 floors? The rendering above shows 5 and looks completely different than what's depicted on SkySong.com

http://skysong.com/element-hotel-to-rise-at-skysong/

*Edit: I think the above building may already be completed and they just used it as a generic photo for the hotel. Too much development for me to follow!

No, no, no! That rendering you're showing is for the next office phase at SkySong which is 6 stories, the hotel is going in at a different location along Scottsdale Rd near the southern end.

Lol, I figured that out. It didn't help that SkySong has this image on their hotel site article. That's where my confusion came from. Got it now

Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament today broke ground on its tenth North American castle, to be located in the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community’s Talking Stick Entertainment District in Scottsdale, Ariz.

With construction slated for completion in early 2019, the 79,000-square-foot 11th Century-style castle will be the only entertainment venue of its type in Arizona. Having entertained more than 67 million guests across the United States and in Toronto over the past three-and-a-half decades, the immersive Medieval Times experience centers around an adrenaline-charged live jousting tournament, filled with awe-inspiring horsemanship and falconry. Heroic knights engage in rousing displays of strength and skill, as fans cheer their champions over a four-course, utensil-free feast, much as they might have 10 centuries ago.
Anyone know where its exact location is? Cant wait to go when it opens for old time sake

This area is quietly becoming our entertainment/amusement center.

Another AC Marriott for Kierland Area.

Seems like AC is shooting for Upscale office locations for the brand.

https://azbigmedia.com/ac-marriott-h...rland-commons/

Quote:
The proposed AC Marriott would be built on the northwest corner of Greenway Parkway and Kierland Boulevard and would be have 165 rooms in a six-story hotel.

This proposed hotel is being developed by Kierland on its current property. The Westin Kierland was acquired by Marriott International in September of 2017.

The civil engineer for this project is Wood/Patel which is based in Phoenix.

Construction could start as early as December, and it would take 15 months to complete the project, said Bruce Lange, the general manager of Westin Kierland, during the meeting.

The Arizona Center in Downtown Phoenix has announced plans to add an AC Marriott hotel to their property as well. There is also an AC Marriott in Tempe, Arizona.

The Paradise Valley Village Planning Committee will hold a vote within the next two months to decide if plans for the hotel can move forward. A new place to stay may be built near the Westin Kierland Resort and Spa.
