It will be interesting to see if anyone can do something with the block across from Canal Crossing and the Budget car rental lot farther down Canal.

Looks like Jaeger is moving his attention to the Royal Cosmopolitan hotel project:

That project just seems like it will be a pain to go through the various approval processes. Surprised we haven't heard anything about the Plaza Tower or the Convention Center project.

that guy is seriously involved in everything... im always on the fence with buildings that tall in that area. considering all the available surface level parking we have around town and not too far from there it would be nice to develop those first but

MAGNOLIA BRIDGE REFURBISHMENT PROJECT TO BEGIN IN EARLY 2018



The City and State are currently processing contracts to refurbish the Magnolia Bridge, which crosses Bayou St. John near Cabrini High School. Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin in early 2018.




The project scope of work includes:

Cleaning and painting the superstructure and decking;
Sealing cracks in the sub-structure; and
Replacing decking, beams, and other structural components.

The Magnolia Bridge was one of the first bridges to provide access over Bayou St. John and is often used for weddings and other special events. The project is cost-shared with the Regional Planning Commission and the Department of Transportation and Development using Federal funds.

Details of the construction sequencing and timeline will be available at the pre-construction public meeting which is tentatively scheduled for February 2018. Email RoadWork@nola.gov to be added to the Magnolia Bridge contact list.

The corner windows definitely get larger as they go up.. If it actually does slope out that should really add some drama to that building/skyline

From the sketches posted earlier on Nov. 7, the roof is at 323'-8".

Looking at what else has been built in city heightwise the odeon should be tallest building built since 1988 and when whats now called benson tower was built

The Ferry Terminal looks good. The floating roof reminds me of the old Rivergate. I wish they could do something about the floodwall, though... maybe put removable panels in this section or something so there's not a giant wall blocking views out Canal Street.

Wait a minute, is the original Eads Plaza building getting demolished? I don't see it between the ferry terminal and the fountain in those renderings. The only thing remaining is that awful claptrap Crazy Lobster.

That's just an optical illusion because the rendering has no perspective in the vertical direction. You can confirm that, just lay another dialog box over the rendering and you can see it's perfectly vertical.

I know this might be a bit off topic, but are there any plans to extend the streetcar? It seems to me that New Orleans has the grounds for a great and comprehensive streetcar system, if only they invest a little more in it.

The Rampart and Loyola streetcar lines are fairly new. Canal line was just extended slightly to connect to a transfer area north of City Park Ave. NORTA has plans to extend THE Rampart line further down St. Claude if money becomes available. Not sure what else is in the long term plan.

You may see a few extensions of the Rampart/Loyola and Riverfront lines, but anything new would be a hard sell. It’s hugely expensive and no faster than a bus. That being said they are exploring ways to speed up the streetcar lines and also consider bus rapid transit in the future.

I would tend to agree.. future expansions that are likely are the riverfront line down to whatever happens with the convention center property and extensions down rampart to at least press street
