Great news about Rosso. Class act. Great for Arriva too.

I actually stopped in at Hungry, Baby? right when they opened. The space was a mess and as Elbownian says there really wasn't anything about the menu that was compelling or special at all. The name- argh- why would anybody name a restaurant a question? Branding was cute but I'd think it was some sort of twee baby food boutique or something.

And "breastaurant"? Clever, yet terrible!

That area needs more condo population....and fast! Which side of the beltline will become the new east village (now that the old one is being redeveloped)?

Hopefully not my end! Yikes

Hey, if it's not your end, then it's my end! Don't mess up my route home from the 7-11 now.

I'm not sure if more population is the solution (that area is already pretty dense, but then again more eyes on the street is never a bad thing), but something does need to be done to help those few blocks out and turn 17th Ave and 1st St W into a contiguous pedestrian retail corridor. Until that happens, I think we'll see more short-lived businesses along that stretch. As it stands, it feels like you've crossed to the wrong side of the tracks the moment you pass the Alberta Ballet sign.

Back on the topic of food, I also hit up Crepes & Cravings last Friday, though it was a gelato stop in my case. And it's proper stuff - not the rebranded ice cream that a lot of places try to pawn off as gelato. My dark chocolate and cinnamon combo was delicious, as was my wife's lemon wafer and chocolate hazelnut. Very good quality and an excellent selection of flavours! I expect we'll be back there far too frequently over the summer.

I would highly recommend a Baratza Virtuoso around the $200 price (you'll have to go online to get it that cheap). DC motor, great unit.

Seconding the Baratza. CW, most of the better coffeehouses sell equipment- better than what you'll find on the shelves at Williams Sonoma etc. Phil & Sebastian and Kawa stock grinders and of they don't have the Virtuoso they can point you to somebody who does.
Ended up going with the Baratza Virtuoso since it seemed like the consensus amongst all the people I asked. Not sure if it will make a huge difference considering we make our coffee with a Bialetti, but I guess we'll see! It might lead to a need to get a dedicated espresso maker....

On Monday night I went to LDV Pizza Bar in Bridgeland for my roommate's birthday. We shared 2 pizzas: one with ham and artichoke and fiore di latte (aka cow mozzarella) cheese and the other with prosciutto, arugula and parmesan cheese. both tasted great! Then we shared chocolate cake with hazelnut gelato

My recommendation:

Discussed all over this thread.

I don't DISlike any of the trucks I've tried but some I've been especially happy with have been Alley Burger, Mighty Skillet, Fries N Dolls, Fiasco and JoJo's BBQ. I'm really intrigued by Naaco (Naan+Taco) but I don't think they've hit the streets yet.

Had lunch at Clive Burger today. Was BLOWN AWAY. To my taste, this was perhaps the best burger I've ever had. I prefer a thin flat-top burger (if anybody here has ever had the butter burger from Culver's in the states, that's the style I mean) and this place delivers, delicious meat, but the toppings are also fantastic with the best pickle I've had on a burger since Harvey's fucked theirs up, fresh jalapeno, this unctuous "clive sauce", REAL cheddar, and the single best burger bun I've ever wrapped my face around. The fries are twice-cooked and as good as Alley Burger and that's saying a lot. The burger is absolutely better than Alley Burger- to my taste.

I am beyond thrilled. Prices are higher than McD's but for this quality the food is worth much more. Single burger, huge order of fries and a bottle of water were about $13.
