Funding for the Reclad of the Northern Lights hospital in Fort Mac has been approved. Sounds like the funding is over 3 years. A minimum of $50 mil. But I heard estimates of up to 100mil. But really they need a new hospital.

There is so much leakage in the envelop that during the winter there are ice bombs falling out of the cladding.

I'm not saying it looks good now as the glass & precast portions look mismatched.
But I cant see how anyone in their right mind would take some nasty-ass, third world, Soviet style, concrete bunker over the newer version.

Looking at the original version makes me want to gouge my fucking eyes out.

It had character! Had! Past tense!

It went from Steve Buschimi to Blond-Haired-Plain-Faced-Girl-With-No-Life!

When Rideau East was built, it had floor to ceiling glazing. These were replaced with smaller windows because of leaks, long before recent reclad.

So it probably looked less slummy in late 60s.

Holy crap. I have been in both those towers in Ottawa and they were by FAR the sketchiest, most dilapidated structures I have had the pleasure of setting foot in. The second one was actually worse, like broken glass littering the hallways and a warning not to use the elevator by the friend I was visiting. The first wasn't as horrible inside but looked like something from Johannesburg or someplace.

Yes! My thoughts exactly. But apparently some ppl on here equate that to "character".

That is character! Films that win Cannes awards aren't based in those boring suburban condos, they are based in the sketchy ones! No one cares about middle class lives!

FCP had a material problem. The marble waas too heavy.

PVM's just dirty. Needs a good clean up on those aluminum panels. I'd say Ivanhoe Cambridge would get right on the case, but I'm not holding my breath.

PVM needs a TD Centre style make-over. Make it look as good as it did in 1962.

I knew it was ugly now, but I didn't realise they'd changed from a nearly bareably building. They could have fixed it to look like a proper commie block, but instead they made it a nightmare. It's the worst building in the area and doesn't even have balconies anymore!
