Hopefully it has 20/20 vision...tax payers aren't going to be very willing to pay for a big contact!

Quite fitting for Chicago with all of its cams. After Halloween they could give it to London where it really belongs.

Or maybe it's Chicago's way of giving the evil eye to those that would smite us..or it will just look cool when complete - I can't decide..

I'm sorry, I thought we we're just trying to come up with as many studid 'eye' puns as possible.

^ Geico commercial?

An acquaintance reports that her Streeterville condo newsletter contained the following blurb: After discussing status of various plans by Northwestern Mem Hospital (VA site, parking garage, etc.), it mentions NMH is "also looking into the possibility of developing a medical office building at 240 E. Ontario". FWIW.

Costco inks 20-year lease for med district parcel
06/01/2010
By Micah Maidenberg

Costco has agreed to lease an empty 16-acre parcel in the Illinois Medical District for its second store in Chicago.

Mark Jamil, an attorney with the medical district, said the company signed the agreement on May 25. The site is bound by 15th, Hastings, Ashland and the Chicago Transit Authority’s Pink Line.

...

"If everything goes perfectly, we’d open in the fall of 2011," Stratis said, after a construction period that could start in June of next year.

^ Really?

Only the Costco and, of course, the new Rush Hospital come to mind.

little renovation projects here and there on taylor, the new cvs on roosevelt and racine, the possible residential buildings on blue island and 15th as well as the next phase of roosevelt square kicking off. Maybe not alot but some notable improvements to empty lots.

^Since state law only allows leasing the land for "medical purposes," the land would probably just lie fallow if Costco doesn't use it for parking.

^^^What else can they do, they're not next to the greatest of neighborhoods, but they are next to major train tracks, and about a dozen more empty lots. I think a Costco fits better there than say a residential community or something of that nature.

^Well, it was a perfectly fine residential community ("the Valley") until IMD began buying up every lot that came on the market.

So I walked by the new Ogden school site the other day and the site seems way bigger than what the renderings show. Does anyone know if there is anything else going on this land, parking lot, etc..?

The rendering in that page is looking SW from the corner of State & Oak. Looks about right to me; it's a rectangular block, relatively narrow between Oak and Walton. Parking and drop-off will be underground.
