I spent a good amount of time watching the construction from the library today.

This photo was meant to highlight the protesters, not the new building, but I thought it was interesting how prominent it looks:

Even a 7 storey building like this can really change the look of a streetscape.

For a moment I though they were protesting the building but they are demonstrating for lower tuition fees instead.

The picture gives a good perspective of the new building and streetscape.

so underwhelmed by this one, isn't going to be that much noticeably different than what was there before and all that is going in is a bank of Montreal

I think only the ground floor will be BMO. Upper floors are residential.

Also, this is quite a bit better than what was there. https://goo.gl/maps/w5Jyq

Perfectly cleared sidewalks. Just like all over the city.

Pretty good for the busiest pedestrian shopping district east of Montreal don't you think? I am glad Halifax is withholding payments for private contractors that left messes like this all over.

Are they? I can't find any media reports to that effect.

It's outrageous. The sidewalk clearance in this city has been a complete disaster. And they're still just laying down little bits of gravel, which DOES NOT melt the ice.

Roads and fully clear, and yet sidewalks on main streets on the peninsula are like sheets of ice.

Thanks for the update. Those setbacks really succeeded in hiding the upper floors from the street view, at least from that perspective.

I'm ecstatic about all the new developments in this area. Them power lines, tho...

I think the main advantage to the setbacks is that they cut down on the shadows cast by the upper floors onto the street. Not sure what the shadow study for this one was like but I bet the whole street is shaded in winter by the lower floors. In summer, setbacks along the southern side probably do help.

Hopefully the Margaretta will be started soon too, filling the last big hole in this part of town.

They have a long way to go to be ready for BMO to move in at the end of July.

Will the rat infested building that currently houses the BMO come down once they move?
