I really like the look of Winnipeg, such an amazing blend of the old with the shiny new. Your photos show this nicely. Where are the people? There is little if any street level activity in almost every picture.
Reminded me of a recent set of imagery I viewed about a city that has seen as many people leave as Winnipeg has in population total - Detroit.
A lot of great buildings - so few people.
good luck getting into that one its socialized housing actualy quite a few really cool buildings in the early 90's were converted to such a thing not far from it such as some old wherehouses
Thanks for sharing, there's some handsome architecture in that city!
I lived in Minneapolis for 21 years, and I always wanted to make a trip north to that city, but the idea of that long drive up there always defeated me.
I saw pics on this site of Winnipeg from circa-1940 and they were really stunning. There was clearly a lot of wealth in this city that showed up in some fabulous public buildings. To see the downtown today with its inert high-rises from the '70s and '80s is really sad. Cities change and grow, of course, and even the best cities have lots of bad buildings. Winnipeg, for many reasons, is probably not in their class. Yet it has amazing bones that cry out for love and veneration. If there's an address to send this damaged city a valentine, let me know.
