I am very excited about the Interlock development, and Star Metals and Osprey. However, what and how will the COA address the congestion on Howell Mill? That road is awful during non-peak rush hour times, imagine 5,000+ more people on that corridor every day with no transit option besides buses that don't have ROW.

And latest Renew Atlanta financing is thinking of scrapping some projects, which could include complete streets. CoA has stated they want to sync the timing of light cycles on Howell Mill, however that isn't good enough. Atlanta Bicycle Coalition is leading a charge basically saying that's not good enough and we need to keep our city's finances towards the projects originally planned.

The developments along Howell Mill are fantastic. The entertainment in this area rivals anywhere else in the city. Imagine if the quality and diversity of these restaurants and entertainment options was on the BeltLine or Midtown... Something like Painted Duck would have been fantastic for the new Common Ground space. More options to do stuff other than drink or eat would be a welcome addition to either neighborhood.

The City of Atlanta will do nothing about congestion on Howell Mill Rd. That is the short, and correct, answer. At least not for the next dozen years or so.

They might conduct five or six multi-million dollar studies about how to reduce traffic congestion in the area. And they will approve more developments, and cram more people in the area. But they won't actually do anything about it.

Does anyone know if ATL3k is active on other forums/media?

I miss his info and insight even if it was a little sensationalist at times. He was by far the most impactful poster on this board and this is a snoozer w/o his updates imo.

A big problem is 14th and Howell Mill, and it strikes me that having two southbound lanes and one nourthbound lane is pretty ridiculous. Most of the time there's someone turning left going both northbound and southbound, so in effect only one southbound lane even has through traffic, and northbound is entirely blocked whenever someone wants to go into White Provisions which is like multiple people per light cycle. Put in a left turn lane instead and things would improve a ton imo.

I read a comment from an Atlanta4000 on an article, Curbed I think, that sounded like something he would say.

Yes a turn lane in either direction would be wonderful. I'm not sure if the fact that it is a private drive has anything to do with it or the intersection was just set up before white provisions garnered much traffic and they haven't updated it.

Blackrock is adding an innovation hub probably in Midtown with up to 1,000 employees. I wonder if this could kick start the Cousins proposal or Midtown Union?

That would be abt 20-25% of the available space in any of the proposed projects. This is the typical amount of preleasing required to start any office building. Howover, it could be going in the already started projects in Atlantic Station as well.

I guess it's still good for the Central Midtown office proposals even if Blackrock was to go with one of the underway projects in AS, because that would just mean far less available new commercial space on that side of the DT Connector for others to absorb, at least in large chunks. So the focus shifts heavily back to the east side. Still would rather this be a jumpstart for one of the West P'tree proposals.

If this is an "innovation hub," wouldn't they want to be as close as possible to Tech Square, where the other innovation hubs are? I'd expect them to take space there before Atlantic Station.

Hey there, I've been following this thread for years and I feel it's time to contribute.
I feel that our thread needs some more visualizations so this is a personal project of mine.

I followed development in Atlanta in 2015 and then didn't update this until just recently.
Here is a visualization for Midtown's progress to see how fast and far we've come!
https://media.giphy.com/media/9V8W1l...5U0r/giphy.gif
And here is the final visual I've got working right now.

Let me know if I'm missing anything that is currently under construction.

Broadstone MIdtown (complete), Piedmont House (complete), and 1105 West Peachtree (proposed) can be added to the list of projects that could be added to the rendering. I'm not even sure if SLS hotel, Yoo on Peachtree, or a few other projects we haven't heard of in a while should be included.

Again, really nice work! I was looking for something similar to this the other day.

I believe someone posted this link recently, but here is an interesting week-long series on Atlanta from the perspective of various staff writers of the popular British newspaper – The Guardian
