A little ways in I had picked out a shot that I was going to say "hey, this was a good shot, nice thread etc. etc." and then I just kept going....couldn't pick out one. Great variety. Really, this is the kind of stuff I sorta try to do, but it's just not the same.

Well, there's one that stood out.

She looks absolutely thrilled to be in a picture.

Do you approach these people and tell them what you're doing or do you just shoot?

You & me both.

Another exceptional set. With the gulls, the fairground, the shades and the grit it had a kind of run-down seaside town feel to it. This one was my favourite of the building shots.

Oh, and that guy with the phone in the earmuffs - asking for trouble.

Nailed it. Brooklyn is a grouchy urban bastard. I love it.

Great thread! Next time you're out in Borough Park, check out World Tong for dim sum - great variety on the carts and the cart women actually smile at you. I've never had that in Manhattan. I just went there again this weekend and was again impressed.

I'm guessing this is Borough Park, too, no? What is it with the Hasidim and ugly architecture? They seem to specialize in it:

Spectacular thread. Each photo was fantastic. Brooklyn seems like such a cool area, lots of old architecture but fantastic infill. The only thing I don't get, and if somebody could explain it would be fantastic, and it's probably because I'm not as knowledged on the area...but why, especially in television is Brooklyn seen as the have-not area? I mean, it seems to have family friendly neighborhoods, it's cheaper for people than Manhattan overall is, got lots of revitalization and infill, heck...it has the Hipster capital of ... maybe anywhere?
