nice -- its about topped out i think and the stern quality is starting to show itself in the facade.

how are the sales going so far? i read it is extremely hard to buy into this building.

Looks fine, though I've seen in skyscrapercity a lot of souring on it as not real Art Deco style, or second rate Stern. Though some praise his work on 520 Park Avenue as his best recent work. How's the opinion here? I know a lot of people have talked about 30 Park Place as kinda disappointing(did they even use a little real limestone on that one?) ...overall decent but not his best work, I was very surprised about the less than enthusiastic reaction at least there and I wonder if there's any of that lack of enthusiasm for 220 W57th here?

I generally like Stern, but it all comes down to execution. Stern makes so many allusions to grandeur that, if not pulled off to the highest standard, the project risks looking like flimsy pretense. I have analogous feeling about 30 Park because of it's use of pre-cast concrete panels. If Stern wants to design true luxury, then he needs to build true luxury. A thin facade won't do it.

The limestone elevates 220 CPS, but the precast on 30 Park Place doesn't detract from it.

^^^^

Thats a great shot. Also, it gives the illusion that NY is a city with no water. Kinda cool to get a vantage point that makes the city look like it has an Atlanta vibe, with skyscrapers, and lots of green.

57th Street is the definition of a skyscraper canyon, along with 42nd Street facing West to East.

Because of how 220 CPS thins when viewed from the West, it really looks taller than it is. Also, as a reference, look at 432 Park, and know that Steinway, will be thinner and slightly taller!

No, we want the New York vibe. At all times. Nothing wrong with Atlanta, I visit quite a bit, but it's can't be confused with New York.

Is that the Roseland tower on the right in the picture above? Surprisingly tall.

all those beautifully fake windows . .
covering up that wide top-to-bottom bare concrete South-side wall . .
an all too rare, expensive, thorough, & noble design gesture . .

(from above) . . ". . the project risks looking like flimsy pretense . .

I say thank God the facade isn't thin as glass . .

"Enjoy the attention while it lasts!"- Jayden
this warm traditional building will indisputably command attention as long as it stands
. . even with the commonplace CPT glass box . . with its noplace crown treatment . .
reaching the city's very pinnacle, looming behind it . .
its hidden cantelever, of little consequence . .
