Full condo tower render from Changing City Updates.

I would call it stunningly bland - or as bland as a ventilation grille.

That better not be it…

Is Telus trying to create the biggest disappointment in town? I love the original residential tower, that radiator grille is brutal.

Does anyone know what happens in between the different segments of the building? For example, in between the podium and the first of the three boxy residential sections there appears to be an inset floor. This seems to be the case in between the remaining two residential boxes as well.

If you look at the office tower in the rendering it also looks bland and representative of what has actually been built. So hopefully the res tower won't look like that

And to think that this monstrosity is what will be blocking the view of the Scotia Tower. I know some people don't like the Scotia Tower, but I think it has far more architectural merit than this junk.

I would be upset if I bought a unit and the final tower looks all monochromatic like that. I thought the wood tones were the visual accent that made the whole tower alive.
I'm surprised the buyers aren't complaining.

Well, the west façade was always intended to be monochrome, so maybe this was changed to "match"?

Do we even know for sure that the design has changed or is this a preemptive overreaction?

The as-built for the podium matches the podium in the "bland" rendering (with a sawtooth slab edge for the "pleated" curtain wall).
- so the assumption is that the tower will be built to reflect that rendering too.

We won't know whether the wood has been deleted from the tower until it is largely complete, as the fins would be one of the last elements installed - they could turn up being wood or steel.

So a builder can just make these large changes to the design of a building without any approval from the city (public)??? Shouldn't the public know what a building is going to look like? And yet if they wanted to increase the height by a foot there would be a whole process? It's ridiculous that we won't know until they start installing the fins?? It's bullshit

Well, look at the Mark. That will give you the answer you want.

Yea the mark is another one. Why aren't these changes made public. I think it's more important than a marginal change in height or fsr which would be posted everywhere

I don't think most buyers care what the building looks like. I'd say their main concerns are the suite itself, the location and building amenities. Being a resident (not an owner) in The Mark I really have no concern that I live in an ugly building. I am just happy that I live in a nice location, have good amenities in my building and mainly just enjoy my suite and my view!

Personal opinion however.

The condo tower should start to rise quickly now.

The office tower sure looks stubby next to the Scotia tower. Should be fixed by a nice tall condo tower though.

I might be in the minority, but I actually really quite like the look of this development.

LOL! Good one!

Just what this city needs — more of the "public" providing input on design.
