^ HA! I knew something like that was going to happen. I would have been VERY surprised if that swoopy style would have been finalized. Houston developers like boxy designs. I could see the previous design going up unchanged in Dallas where they are more daring with their architecture but not here.

The independent living homes will be offered in one-, two- and three-bedroom floor plans.

As the population has continued to age and move to retirement, more communities have chosen Houston to expand, and the companies have upgraded rooms and amenities.

Construction is set to begin in the third quarter of this year on the 11-story tower, with the expected completion date sometime in 2017.

Yeah. It could have became another 5-floor stick frame structure. Oh well. It's better than what currently exist.

I can't. The most daring building is the pointy-top skyscraper that was built downtown almost 30 years ago. They are good for laser light shows, but architecturally...

Houston's largest park could see potentially more than $200 million in renovations through a new master plan that includes a land bridge over Memorial Drive and an indoor swimming pool.

Previously serving as a campground for soldiers training for World War I, Memorial Park has been a central green space for the city of Houston since its inception in the 1920s, but extensive use and a major drought have left parts of it in need of repair.

The goal is to invest at least $150 million through the Uptown Houston Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone, which was recently restructured to include Memorial Park, as well as funds raised by the Memorial Park Conservancy and private donations, said Sarah Newbery, Uptown Houston's project director for Memorial Park. Altogether, the money invested into the park will top $200 million over the next 20 years.

And such will be the fate of that giant swimming hole they want to build east of Downtown.

Well, 2015 may be slow, but 2014 was a great year:

City building permits set record in 2014

So Zillow says real estate won't feel the effects until late in the year:

Dip in housing won't be immediate

Houston area employers created 7,400 new jobs in December, including 1,600 in oil and gas exploration and production, according to the report.

Over the past 12 months, Houston area employers added 120,600 new jobs, a 4.2 percent year-over-year increase.

The commission also reported Friday that the Houston area unemployment rate dropped to 4.1 percent in December, down from 4.5 percent in November.
Robust job growth in Houston even after 6 MONTHS of continuous oil price decline. Downstream is expected to cushion the cuts in Upstream sector and Midstream will remain flat.

All Nippon, Sunwing, Volaris, and WestJet all new foreign airliners to IAH Houston. Officially announced entry into the market. Brings total foreign flag count to 22 tying Boston for first time in city history. More announcements of new foreign airliners expected by summer BTW.

If not already, you could volunteer for the Memorial Park design committee (s) to help make sure something good happens.

Also Eva Air, which is bringing the Hello Kitty 777.

And there are rumors Air New Zealand may join them...

Capital expenditures in oil have dropped so sharply that some are speculating that a price spike could occur in the next couple of years. And so the yo-yo continues:

I should change the heading to under construction or very recently completed. I thought I had read that the Sovereign, while leasing, was still under construction. But that appears to have been outdated.

On One Market Square, I meant to list the apartment building known as Market Square Tower (and I included the wrong height as well.) I'll correct the post.
