Geoguessr

Geoguessr has been out for a while, is game where, you are given a random Google Street View image, and by moving around, trying to find where in the world you are.

https://geoguessr.com/

They just added Canada to the list of available maps.

https://geoguessr.com/canada/play

Have fun.

Second went better. Sign said Evangeline so I knew it was Acadia. Tried to click NB/NS border but when it zoomed in to check my answer I actually clicked the strait between NB and PEI. lol Still, only 162 km off.

I got this post-apocalyptic scene of some big box store complex with a single suburban home with faux brick on the bottom half of its front... and all on a flat, treeless landscape.

I had no idea they had that in the Maritimes.

AAANNNDDD I'm disqualified. Not allowed to play anymore,

Did pretty good on my first try.
First 3 were pretty much in my backyard!

For people interested in watching others play this game, I would suggest watching Northernlion's GeoGuessr series...

First (Only) game for me. 2 in Nova Scotia, 2 in Ontario and one out in BC.

The second Ontario one freaked me out because it put me in a neighbourhood eerily similar to my Cousin's place. Turned out it was in the same general region. (Cousin is in Chatham, the Geoguesser was in Niagara Falls)

At least you were right about it being on the West Coast!

Fun game. Overconfidence bias and later humbling. I did come within 100 kms of one guess (turned out to be some industrial park in Red Deer, and I was just a little off to the east). Bombed the last question, which looked to me like Sudbury region, but was near Glace Bay, Cape Breton Island.

I suppose the way I play it would be considered 'cheating'. I wander around enough to try and find city/route markers/street/store signs to give me an idea of where I am. then I open Maps in a second window and narrow it down further.

It does mean that my guesses were all within metres of the actual location by the time I do make the guess. (I think the furthest I was off was 13km or so for a guess near Amherst)

There are really no rules in GeoGuessr, you can select a time limit on the home page
and click the 'gear' beside "Let's Play". I was able to get a Perfect Score (25,000), took a lot of time finding the city, highway, etc. The only rule I follow was stay away from Google.

Found this while in GeoGuessr

Not bad

But for 2 of them I ended up in the middle of the woods so I wandered a bit until I could at least see a house, but it was 4 or 5 clicks down the road at most.

No but appearance wise, the neighbourhoods had the same look. (Single story brick houses with carports), and the vegetation was similar too. Enough to make me double take. (Especially since the style of the first house was almost identical to my cousin's)

So at least if the game sent you to Evangeline St. in Sherbrooke you'd be less off than on your last guess (~1000 km off instead of 4600 km off).

Yeah but it would have been in French right? I mean the secondary words of course. This one was Evangeline Insurance or something like that in English. And it was a rural, Maritime-y road.

But dig taken lol
