Reminds me of the Knorr ad from about 10 years ago which was also made in Canada. Hmm, somebody stole that idea!

From the 1980s, the Ontario Incredible! ads. They were also on the radio all of the time and you'd hear that jingle over and over again.

Hah, we had to sing "A place to stand" when I went to school in Toronto in the 90s. School was a lot more nationalistic when I was young, I doubt kids these days have ever even heard that song. Probably a good thing, it was cheesy as all hell anyway.

The first radio commercial that came up in my mind was that stupid "It was a rainy day in pizzaville". Ugh.

I was watching one of those timeshift channels from BC on cable a few years back and I heard an ad for some store out there with the exact same jingle. There must be some sort of jingle factory that churns this shit out.

Here's the other big annoying jingle in Fredericton. Jim Gilbert's Wheels and Deals. Where no amount of insane kitschy self-promotion is ever enough.

We definitely weren't nationalistic in Northern Ontario. I had only heard that song when my Grandfather in Ottawa used to sing it. Didn't realize it was a real song until I found it on YouTube.

Another annoying ad I'm trying to find that was in Toronto is the 967 11 11 ad for Pizza Pizza. The original one. That radio jingle was effective but oh so annoying.

That Ontario song was a classic and was produced for Expo 67 in Montreal.

It wasn't Canadian, but getting the cable signal from Detroit meant listening to Mel Farr commercials every day when staying up late to watch David Letterman.

Marineland (French or English versions) and Alarmforce are the worst.
Ever.

When I saw Harls posted this, I thought for sure it would be the Jean Coutu jingle (to the tune of some Mozart piece). You'll know it if you've heard it.

Also terrible, the operatic 4-3-9-oh-OH-OH-oh Pizza Nova that used to air in Hamilton

Sorry I can't get links for any of this stuff from my office.

Do they run those ads in English too? I've only ever heard them in French.

Tu
Devrais
Aller chez Jean Coutu

It's been a few years, but I think there was an English version where they awkwardly rhyme "you should go to Jean Coutu" They say "you" and "to" to rhyme with the French "tu." It's really bad.

They still have that slogan on their bags. But they've completely dropped it (and the accompanying jingle) in their radio and TV ads in favour of the Mozart jingle.

Now that you mention it, I have heard that before in English.

The jingle at the end of this ad for Corbeil appliances has been a classic in Quebec for years. The ads also feature Quebec talk show host and actor Yves Corbeil (the guy in the hat with the deep voice) who is not the owner of the chain at all, but he has the same name, so go figure.

In recent years, Corbeil have expanded into Ontario (Ottawa and GTA) and have adapted the jingle in English. I've heard it on Ottawa radio stations. I've also seen Yves Corbeil's face on billboards with the wording in English along roads in Ottawa. Even though he isn't really a celebrity in Ontario like he is in Quebec.
