Good call. I just googled this and see it's listed as "Coming Soon". Scroll to the bottom of the page.

http://wendelclarks.com/

He could do OK here, just on name recognition. Plus, it's a solid building for a pub-type restaurant in a not terrible location.

Good find, guys! Thanks.

Looks like Saskatoon will be their first location outside Ontario.

The whole mall is being renovated. The floors, walls, ceiling and railing on the 2nd level. All the work is being done at night after the mall closes. As for the Sears space it’s boarded up so you can’t see anything from the inside.

The Taste Restaurant Group (Una, Picaro, Bar Gusto) is opening "Cohen's Beer Republic" this winter: https://www.instagram.com/cohensyxe/?hl=en

Anyone know where this is going?

Picaro

According to a friend of a friend who works at Picaro, they will be moving Picaro into the smaller (former) tattoo shop space and opening a burger/beer/homestyle cooking joint in the Picaro space. Apparently Picaro is doing well, but the concept isn't quite popular enough to fill the entire space.

So maybe that is what you're seeing

Also, it feels like an exciting time in Stoon, construction wise! I've been waiting for some good, modern core infill since the boom in '08. FINALLY.

Thanks! That would make sense as their Una/Gusto businesses are grouped together in the same spot. I would imagine they find a lot of efficiencies with shared kitchen space and that.

Hockey legend Wendel Clark brings restaurant chain to Saskatoon

Saskatoon Star Phoenix
September 21, 2018

Wendel Clark is expanding his restaurant chain out of Ontario — and into Saskatoon.

The hockey great’s restaurant, Wendel Clark’s Bar & Grill, currently has three locations: Brampton, Burlington and Hamilton. Its fourth, in the old Tony Roma’s restaurant on Circle Drive East, is expected to open late this year or early next year.

“We have a franchisee … who would like to open one. Hometown. Grew up there, played there and I think it’ll be a great spot,” Clark said of the decision to open the restaurant in Saskatoon.

It was brought up earlier, but Leopold's Tavern confirmed yesterday their new location opening in Warman in Spring 2019. They sure on an aggressive expansion, but it should do well in Warman.

Prairie Sun Brewery one step closer to Broadway location.
It really is too bad that it is not going to be a music venue location...

Martensville and Warman are of the size where they can support businesses like this. The Caesar Mill in Martensville has been a huge hit from my understanding.

Not sure if this has been posted yet, but I noticed Ming's Kitchen coming soon posters up in the ill-fated location on the (almost) corner of 2nd and 24th where the last remnants of "El Coyote" still remain. Hopefully they'll be the ones to break the curse of that location!

Pita bakery offering fresh options to a growing Saskatoon

Shop produces thousands of fresh pitas every morning

by Courtney Markewich, CBC News
Oct 19, 2018

The employees of Saskatoon's Sal Pita start in the early hours every morning to produce what the business says are the only fresh pitas in the city.

"Any type of bread, when it's fresh, it's at best," said Al Rabba, co-owner of Sal Pita.

The business opened roughly a year and a half ago. Rabba said he had been living in Saskatoon a few years and noticed that there wasn't an option to buy fresh pitas in the city. With the bread being such an important part of a Middle Eastern diet, he saw an opportunity.

"Saskatoon's getting more diverse as we go. There's a lot of Syrian refugees in town now."

Old Coop Home Centre

Maybe I missed a post about it, but does anyone know what is going into the old Coop Home Centre on 8th? Renovations are in full swing including wood features on the facade.

Yup, it's another Co-op Liquor store--it will have a wine tasting room similar to the Blairmore location as well (the new Meadows Market location doesn't have one).
