If the rendering is indicative of how it will actually appear then the fact that it is predominantly white is a big plus. Otherwise it's pretty much a 60's box the same height as the rest of Austin's plateau but with a few columns strategically misplaced. I give it a 6.

It's way prettier than a 6 and Austin doesn't have anything similar, so I'll be glad if it gets built

I would agree that this is not a "very creative" design. However, it IS different than the other buildings going up or having been proposed.

I actually don't mind "adding to the plateau" in this location. It actually begins to stretch height more north. Austin's height is basically located between Sixth Street and the river.

This tower, if built, will be a nice addition along with the site being marketed at 9th & Brazos (should another to with some height be built on that site).

Ditto. Well, maybe it's only a 6 or 7 but I hope it gets built. Small footprint for the height, we need more of that, and OMG, no 12-level parking garage?

This is a massing of 2100 Rio Grande. It goes to the Planning Commission this Tuesday because they need approval for increased height. Capstone is the developer and Rhode Partners is the architect.

I wonder when we'll see someone try to build a real skyscraper in West Campus.

I think they might run out of well heeled students before that ever happens. I am just amazed that so many youngsters can afford to live in these places. They are not cheap, but I guess $1,000 and up is what a bedroom costs nowadays in that neck of the woods. http://www.westcampusliving.com/prop...Rio_Apartments Note the prices quoted are per bedroom rather than for the entire unit.

Will someone with an ABJ subscription please tell us what projects they have uncovered?

Teaser lead in:

The number of new real estate projects in Austin is in the hundreds, even thousands, but ABJ has unearthed some of the newer ones buried in public records.

I suspect we already know about any significant projects they have found out about.

Yes. Nothing big or new...

Post Office Site

So today we went over some speculation about Hotel Zaza and Waller Park Place, which really makes me wonder about the Post Office site. So many parcels are getting developed downtown. Why is it taking so long for something concrete to emerge on that lot?

Patience, my padawan. Things do not happen overnight. Something will come of the old post office site...but, not until, at least, the next cycle.

Patience is a virtue. May patience bring a 1,000 ft point tower with minimal/underground parking.

A few South Austin small projects...

The new Value Place Hotel on IH 35 is coming along. The structure's bones are complete and it's been wrapped in the plastic barrier. Waiting for the outer skin to go on. This one is located just south of the Acura dealership, and north of Teri Road.

https://www.austintexas.gov/devrevie...erRSN=11402143

https://www.austintexas.gov/devrevie...erRSN=11454761

The Tinseltown is currently being torn down. The wall facing I35 is gone and the guts of the theater are exposed. This is going to be the new home of BMW of Austin.

https://www.austintexas.gov/devrevie...erRSN=11483010

https://www.austintexas.gov/devrevie...erRSN=11447562

Just noticed new construction on the SB side of I35 south of Stassney. In that spot north of Capitol Chevrolet, and in front of Trudy's, is going Ferrari of Austin.

https://www.austintexas.gov/devrevie...erRSN=11486328

I'm confused about this one. Maybe someone can help.

A year ago, ABJ reported a Plano group buying 1603 Teri Road for a small hotel.

http://www.bizjournals.com/austin/bl...for-south.html

I can't find it on the permit page.

I can find this project listed at 5001 IH 35 (where the South Point Dodge is) owned by the same Plano group and listed as a future Comfort Suites.

https://www.austintexas.gov/devrevie...erRSN=11434232

Two different hotel projects? Did they sell one and buy the other to develop? Same project, but confusion on the address?

EDIT: It's an 80-room Comfort Suites at 1603 Teri Road (elevations on 018). Still not sure what the 5001 IH 35 project is above^.

Do you know if this is replacing the Ferrari on N. Lamar, or if for some weird reason, this is another Ferrari dealership?

If this is replacing it, that would be sad...only because I live off Lamar and love oogling at the cars as I go by.

I know the BMW dealership is relocating to South Austin. I'm not sure about Ferrari.
