Norwegian Air is delaying its Canadian launch to summer 2019, I believe because there deliveries are coming in late.

They were expected to launch out of Hamilton and had ground crew contracts either signed or ready to sign.

Hamilton got Victoria as a direct same plane route and Toronto got the rest.

Flair Limits flights out of YHM for the summer

Flair Decreases flights out of YHM

Flair will now only be doing a single daily flight to Winnipeg, Edmonton and Victoria departing at 6:35am. It does look like they will be doing connection flights to Calgary and Abbotsford as well. The flight schedule changes on June 15th. Spoke to soon about their summer schedule.

2 updates at YHM.

Flair was not able to get a slot time at YYZ (Toronto) for YHZ (Halifax), so they are moving passengers to YHM. Their new route map shows YHM to YHZ.

Canada Jetlines has leased two Airbus A320 aircraft and made a deposit payment of US$876,000.

Quote:
Once a definitive lease agreement is concluded for these aircraft, the Company will be able to provide new guidance to the market on its projected start-up date and aircraft delivery schedule. The Company is targeting the conclusion of a definitive lease agreement before the end of Q2, 2018.
They still could start this summer. As of April 23rd they are still stating on Facebook "Did you know we plan to fly to locations down south? Although our main air travel hub will be in Hamilton, Ontario, Jetlines has planned routes that include warmer destinations such as Phoenix, Mexico, and Florida."

Air Transat from YHM Winter 2018/19
5 Destinations 6 Flights

Cancun, MX (CUN) Tues A321-200 & Sat B737-800
Cayo Coco (CCC) Fri B737-800
Puerto Plata, DO (POP) Fri B737-800
Punta Cana (PUJ) Sun B737-800
Varadero (VRA) Sat B737-800

From WestJet’s management commented on its plans for Swoop.

Quote:
1. WestJet has fully crewed the launch aircraft.
2. Swoop will start operations on June 20, 2018
3. The first aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, is being painted and will have 189 seats.
4. Swoop will take delivery of two aircraft in June, a third in July. The fleet will grow to six aircraft by the fourth quarter 2018 and the full fleet of 10 aircraft by the the third quarter of 2019.
5. Swoop aircraft are being transferred from WestJet as “excess capacity” that would otherwise be returned to their respective lessors.
Swoop has lots of staff at YHM starting security checks and training. They will not be using kiosks to start with.

WestJet and Swoop will be changing spaces with WestJet scaling down. WestJet will be replacing their 8 check-in kiosks for 4 brand new ones.

Air Canada

Air Canada is getting 3 check-in kiosks at YHM. Both AC’s staff and airport staff are wondering if this may mean more flights as 3 kiosks for 2 – 50 seat aircraft seems to be excessive as usually half of AC’s passengers are business travelers that have carry-on only and by-pass check-in all together.

YHM

Lots of work going on at the airport. Extra check-in counters and gate counters are going in. Later in the year, they are planning to put in common use check-in counter to speed up check–in. Each kiosk will have all the airlines on it so you can use the first one you see regardless of what airline you are flying with.

Looks like there will be some changes in food service with more selection coming. Just waiting for the press release.

They are repaving and re-configuring the premium lot. Cabs, limousines and shuttle buses are being moved to the front of this lot to free up space in front of the terminal for drop offs.

The airport has run out of office space and is bring in office trailers for staff. Most likely the corporate offices and security will be moving out of their office space later this year. They have not picked a location yet but they are talking about a temporary trailer office (maybe two stories) with new space back in the terminal later in the terminal expansion.

And yes they are doing plans for expansion. It will not be a 2nd floor in the beginning. They are looking to expand out wards to be able to have more gates, changes and moving the screening area, moving Tim Horton's, moving the front entrance, expanding the arrivals area and more. Work will not start on most of this until the very end of the year or early in 2019.

Updated Summer Schedule for Flair.

Looks like flair will be having 3 departures daily from YHM.
6:35 -> Winnipeg (Continues to Edmonton and Victoria
13:40 -> Halifax
18:00 -> Edmonton

Going to be interesting to see the pax numbers on the YHM-YEG flights since they will be running 2-4x daily in the summer.
