Had any real construction ever begun for this tower? Other than site clearing and excavation. Had construction of the foundation started?

Imre got a free chopper ride from a company in return for selling a lot of his pictures. Here are some pictures from this abandoned site.

Sadly, it looks that way.....just read any newspaper in the world.

Here are just a few examples.
The first and third link mentions Nakheel PJSC by name.

I dont' think it's dead yet. Just on hold maybe for another year. Everything will come back.. They are just finally really feeling the global recession now, this is just a huge 'correction' and things will bounce back. More and more people will still be moving to Dubai and it will continue to grow. This is only a large setback.

If I could find a good job there, I personally wouldn't mind moving to Dubai myself.

This project is most definitely going to be dead. 1: it's extravagantly expensive. 2: there's no "need" for it to be built. 3: Nakheel's bankrupt. 4: Sheik Mohammed has already fulfilled his dream of building the tallest structure on earth in his emirate. His ego is sufficiently padded, I'm sure. I think that sums it up If it goes forward I'll be shocked.

And real estate prices have halved so there's no way it could pay for itself even if the need was there and every square foot was sold/rented. AND Dubai is in $80 billion dollars of debt.

Today I read that the project has been cancelled, says Wikipedia. As well as CTBUH deleted this building on it´s "on-hold" tallest list.
