Wonderful pics. Thanks for sharing with us one of the least well known mega cities in the world (But i know that will change and as time marches on)..
Serious question: What do you think the "end game" of Jakarta will look like? Will it be similar to Taipei; Beijing; Manila; Toyko? Or more income disparity where there will be "two Jakarta's" economically speaking like major cities in India or Lagos or Johannesburg?

Structurally, it's already shaping up a bit like Tokyo: multi-nodal and densely decentralized. But the wealth gap is more like what you see in the Indian mega cities. I've yet to explore Jakarta much beyond Kuningan and Senayan.

Like the other major cities in the world (even in NYC though) issues of economic and social disparities will always exist; perhaps what distinguishes one city to another is the distance of the gap between the two groups.
In the context of the physical structure of the city, especially the city of Jakarta, the gap between rich and poor is not very clearly defined. That is to say, in the development of the city, are seen many enclaves of middle-low class residential that looks seedy adjoining with the superblock or CBD lots.
When compared to some of the world's megacities, Jakarta classified as a megacity which relatively has a small slum area.
In terms of skyline form, Jakarta more like Tokyo or Bangkok.
