Craft is pretty good but National is always bumping for the drinks.

What is that new coffee shop in Waterfront condos by Eau Claire like? I have heard a few good whispers, I think they have just been open for a few weeks or so?

Anyone been there? Any reviews from some of the coffee experts?

Yup! I know the people who own it. It's fantastic! They make a mean mocha

I noticed when I went there, that the electrical box outside was labeled "Dowtown-Chinatown" is that considered china town? I always thought the border started from where the sien Lok park started.

National's food is decent. What sets them apart are things like rooftop patios, bowling lounge, bourbon room, table games etc.

And probably the best beer selection in the city.

Just had an aerial view of the rooftop patio on 10th. Looks to be close to opening. Similar as the Stephen Ave location just smaller.

That bowling alley takes HOURS to get a lane if you don't RSVP ahead of time.

Whoever thought of that concept is raking in the dough.

I have that recipe from when he and I worked at the same place in Vancouver. Pretty sure it wasn't his creation.

It is to be expected, and I wouldn't say the National has traditional pub fare, it's a twist on traditional pub fare and I feel like they're trying too hard and failing. I find the food at Craft a lot better. Mind you, I am choked that they took the Waldorf Chicken Salad off the menu.

Hello guys
I am new here and I wonder if someone can help me with my business.
I come from Georgia, we are exporting hazelnuts to some countries.
in December I am coming to Winnipeg and I want to know if someone knows companies who are interested to buy best quality hazelnuts.
the quality and the price is perfect.
I hope someone will help me or give me some advise where to search such Companies.
thanks

WOW, that's insane congrats on reaching that milestone.

You are going to freeze your nuts off in Winnipeg in December.

Is that for 3 people? Seems small for the size of the rest of the place.

They could reroute the HVAC and then cover the extra ductwork into bar-height tables.

Spole to the GM of National 10th on Friday night. They JUST finished the patio last week. They won't open this season, but are excited to get it going next season. I also asked him about the success of the Scotia Centre location. They too are curious to see how things go after the patio closes. They are finding that a lot of people don't know that National is there and that it isn't West.

They need better signage at Scotia Centre. Goro + Gun took the prime real estate sign. All they have is a temporary banner. LAME.

I'd invest in redesigning the Scotia Centre signage to incorporate National on the 'top' of the sign to let people know!

Ben Put, formerly of Phil & Sebastian and now with Monogram Coffee, has won the Canadian Barista Championship for the second year in a row. 2015 world championships are in Seattle- which means that unless the US champion is from the PNW, he'll have the easiest travel to worlds of any competitor. That's a big advantage. Ben came in 11th in the world most recently.

This makes three national championships in a row for Calgary baristas (Jeremy Ho in 2012 and Ben in 2013 and 2014) and fourth for an Alberta barista since Josh Hockin won it for Transcend in Edmonton (whose beans Ben used in the prairie regionals and nationals btw) in 2011. Calgary baristas placed 1st, 3rd and 5th this year.

As to cafes- I've been gone for a month now and am wondering if any progress has been made with the Porto site at the corner of 14 St and 17th Ave SW. Can somebody take a look for me? Still for rent?

I think that's a Mexican restaurant now. Also, congrats to team Monogram.

Coming soon sign up for Pampa Brazilian steakhouse at Centre 10. Looks like it's going to take up the entire right side of the ground floor
