It's funny how the "heart of downtown" has sort of moved with this project. Downtown used to sort of end at Van Buren going north...now with the park and all the other ASU stuff, it goes to the Westward Ho building.

The parking lots around the park are prime locations for some residential buildings, especially directly north. What a great location that would be for an apartment building.

Quite beautiful. Is the art work permanent? I really like it, but I don't see how it will survive the first haboob/monsoon.

Yeah, I think this is a real critical move for the city as it has expanded its limits of downtown. I think it is also a convenient location to the more residential neighborhoods to the north while still being close enough to the existing businesses. It is also right by a light rail stop so it is easily accessible.

When Central Park in New York was built there wasn't really anything north of it. This park will not be Central Park, but I hope it can have the same meaning to Phoenix. Only time will tell though.

Yes, it is permanent.

We will have to see how it withstands the monsoon seasons. I have no doubts about the supports or the rings themselves, but the netting? I'm sure there are engineers out there that didn't overlook the problem.

The city understands that the netting will need to be replaced over time and plans on doing so. The structure was the big investment and it will be exciting in the future with new nets. The cost of the net is a fraction of the total cost so replacing it isn't that big a deal like some people suggest. I highly doubt the city will just let it go to waste and all large scale works of art need to be maintained.

There's going to be a forum on the engineering of the structure and net sometime in the future. This is not just a simple net and I'm curious to hear about how this thing is really engineered.

I remember hearing that the net will be replaced every 5 to 10 years, depending on how much wear and tear it has.

Well I already know of 4 people who otherwise rarely visit downtown who have taken a drive to see it. Its not really surprising though, the Bean in Chicago also attracts a lot of people. Big, bold, unique public art installations aren't exactly on every corner (especially in Phx sadly), so its a curiosity at the very least.

I'd probably make the special trip to see it too but I just don't know why. LOL.
Anything that gets people downtown or anywhere is a good thing.

/\No reports... I'll assume that nothing happened to it. Although the recent storms weren't nearly as severe as they can be sometimes.

Wow! That's an impressive installation. I'm pretty sure that this will attract the attention of passers-by and will increase the number of people visiting Downtown Phoenix. Hope me and my wife can go there one of these days to see this wonderful installation. Thanks for sharing these pics.

That is one beautiful piece of artwork! Never seen like it. So unique. Haven't been in Phx in years ... should visit that area someday. ASU's Walter Cronkite building isn't bad either.

Maybe Phx should add more of that 'Jellyfish' within close proximity and 'floating' much higher ... that would make a good photo from a distance.

WOW! That's superb! Very nice piece! It must be one of the center of attraction to that place! What was that made of? I'm getting really curious right now. Thanks for sharing!

Very nice! I especially love the Jelly Fish. I would really like to see that artist create a similar piece in downtown Salt Lake. It fills so many interesting, artistic niches.
