Four Points by Sheraton Heads to Downtown Manhattan
Opening in Summer 2013, Four Points by Sheraton Financial District Will Be Brand’s Fourth Hotel in New York City

Quote:

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. (NYSE: HOT) today announced plans to bring its fast-growing Four Points brand to the epicenter of New York City’s bustling downtown financial district. Four Points by Sheraton Financial District is scheduled to open in the summer of 2013, just four blocks from Wall Street. The newly constructed hotel is the eighth Starwood property developed by the Lam Group and will offer 264 comfortable and stylish guest rooms and suites, plus all the amenities guests need to travel the way they like for a great price.

“The Financial District continues to evolve into one of New York City’s most exciting areas, and we’re delighted that Four Points will play a part in that growth,” said Brian McGuinness, Senior Vice President, Specialty Select Brands for Starwood. “Four Points’ positioning around value, comfort, and convenience has become a huge hit with guests worldwide, and we’re looking forward to giving business and leisure travelers in New York City an affordable yet stylish option in an ideal location.”

Located at 6 Platt Street, Four Points by Sheraton Financial District will be just a short stroll from the South Street Seaport, New York Stock Exchange, the American Stock Exchange, the World Financial Center and City Hall. Also nearby are Battery Park, Little Italy, Tribeca and the Statue of Liberty. A short subway ride will whisk travelers to the Times Square Broadway Theater District, Midtown, Greenwich Village, SoHo and Brooklyn. Four Points by Sheraton Financial District will join the Four Points in Times Square, SoHo and Chelsea.

At Four Points by Sheraton Financial District, guests will enjoy all-day dining in an upscale restaurant with an outdoor terrace. After a day of sightseeing or business meetings, guests can relax with a craft beer or cocktail, while enjoying spectacular city views from the city’s sleek, rooftop lounge.

The hotel’s 2,000 square feet of state-of-the-art conference space will accommodate small to mid-size meetings and social functions. Additional amenities will include a 24-hour fitness center and business center.

Nothing to See There at New Four Points on Platt Street

January 19, 2012
by Dave Hogarty

Quote:
A new rendering of the planned 264-room Four Points by Sheraton at 6 Platt Street may be a brilliant new concept in increasing the hotel's pay-per-view revenue by placing guests in windowless rooms with nothing else to look at but the TV. Our first impression of the rendering was that we were looking at an inversion of SOM's Toren in Brooklyn, with the ratio of dimpled aluminum accent panels per window turned upside down. We know that the privacy of hotel guests is probably a concern along the narrow canyons of the Financial District, but we hope that the solution devised by Nobutaka Ashihara and the Lam Group wasn't to make 80% of the building's 27-story facade opaque.

Not a fantastic tower, but it is significantly better than the sub-par 30 Fletcher Street.

This building design is a lot like the brutal architecture of the 60's and 70's. Not good looking at all. I mean some brutal architecture are okay but this one is one of the bad ones.

It's just a couple of blocks from that one, continuing the trend of these hotels popping up everywhere.

These little hotels are showing up everywhere like mushrooms after a rainstorm. Can't wait until all those proposed/approved supertalls start sprouting in a similar manner.

Long-Dormant Pearl Street Sheraton Comes Back to Life

March 2, 2012
by Sara Polsky

Quote:
A tipster sends word (and photos) of a little Pearl Street surprise: the planned and canceled hotel at 213 Pearl Street appears to be back on. The site was once earmarked for two hotels, a Sheraton and an Aloft, but financing dried up before the 53-story project could get off the ground. New signage at the site advertises a 260-room Four Points by Sheraton, with the official address of 6 Platt Street. DOB records show a permit issued for a partial job as of January, and that permit calls for a 27-story building.

Mercedes House is going to be an atrocity.

This project is decent filler - architecturally it's quite interesting.

The Four Points design is OK, but the one in the second render would have been better off as a simple reflective glass box. How in the world can a developer inflict such ugliness on the city? Can it really be that much more expensive to come up with a mediocre design rather than an atrocious one?

I am seriously confused what is going on with the design of this tower, particularly in light of this additional render. It seems it could be much more effectively and gracefully executed.

There are those developers that don't care about aesthetics.

For some reason in my mind it looks like this awful building could be appreciated as a modern take on a pueblo adobe dwelling. The design is almost modern new-mexican with that color scheme and the minimalist use of facade.

I was thinking so much about what building looks like these two proposed buildings and I figured out that they both would look like the Metropolitan Corrrectional Center in Chicago which is a jail.

Compare and contrast. Look at the pictures above and start comparing.
