This has the same effect that BofA Tower, has on the streetscape. It replaced a bunch of (old/and some nasty) buildings, and is a breath of FRESH air.

SPOT it. It's as thin as a pencil, yet HARD to believe it'll be taller than almost every building in Midtown.

It's immediately to the left of Trump Tower II. I can barely make out the orange ( ) on the skeleton.
Then comes 432 Park and the canyonization of 57th street. Then we get 1717 Broadway, Tower Verre, 99 Church, 56 Leonard, WTC 2 & 3. Then comes the absolute full-frontal assault on the emptiness that for too long has characterized MidTown's West side.
This pic come 2017 or so.........hoo-hoo hooooooooooooo.................

I feel a wee bit unpatriotic saying this, but I get more excited to click on the One57 thread now than the 1WTC thread.

It feels like opening a present on Christmas morning!

The skyline almost looks like it did before 9/11. The best thing about all these developments is that 10 years later NY will be the capital of supertalls.

The glass looks so exotic! I can't wait to see this thing completed! Does anyone know how much longer it has to topping out?

ONE57 - Not without it's controversy

This building is sure to be in the real estate news for a long time, I posted a youtube video and you only have to read the comments to see that ONE57 will be met with controversy. I think eventually it will add to the New York City skyline and people with get over the fact that another building is going to block the sun and views of the surrounding buildings.

I've been posting the lastest news on my blog if anyone cares to have a look-see: http://lower-manhattan-real-estate.c...d-at-its-feet/

Ben

It'll be cool to see the Essex House sign in contrast against the reflective glass that will eventually cover that face of One57. If that sign wasn't already a photo op, it sure will be now.

How bright is the Essex House sign from behind? Hopefully not too bright or else the people on the nearest floors of One57 might be like this:

Yesterday...

It's about the same height as the Carnegie Hall Tower. Maybe one more floor to overtake it? I'll do another update tomorrow with glass shots, as that seems to be making significant progress even in the span of a few days (I didn't get underneath it this time).

When complete, this tower is going to be spectacularly tall and slender from Columbus Circle. It is already, I can only imagine how it will look with an additional 250 feet.
