Look at the old design rendering again and you will notice that the horizontal portions do not provide much solar shading in the first place. In fact solar shading is even less relevant for the new design that you like, and deemed as very Foster-like. "Functionally irrelevant, and just a tacked on gimmick"?

Looking at the renders of the old design, honestly, I think that I vastly prefer the new one.

Yes I prefer the new design more too. I don't think those things were ever meant to act as solar shades, I don't know where that came from

Thanks!
The alley side really looks disjointed from the rest - at least until brick is installed on the rest (?)

a nice splash of colour in a sea of beige! curious as to why all social housing projects have no balconies?

Hmm, low income, probably on social assistance, probably have unique circumstances such as a disability or mental illness; see where I'm getting at?

Personally I have always found that balconies are generally a waste of space anyways.

I wonder how hollywoodnorth feels like when cranes are retracted.

I agree that the color here is a much needed addition to the area. Very good midrise for Downtown.

Maybe that's why they all look nicer.

They still had to throw in some sea foam green spandrel on the ground level at the corner.

I think it should have been white or grey like what's already on there.

I really like it. Although one funny thing. In the first picture 3rd floor to the left there is a coloured spandrel below a window. It's the only one on the whole building like that. The rest are grey lol

Yeah, that is weird - like a finger poking out or something. It interrupts the "stripes".

My guess wrt the "seafoam" spandrel is that it blends better with the beige brick than gray would do. Plus I think the cladding around the horizontal windows on the corner will also be beige too.
