Regarding the transportation, here are my thoughts:

* Localize the main street network and focus on in-town development. They shouldn't be simply streets that people pass through on the way to work or amenities. That is a common mistake in a lot of settings. Classic example is Bronson Avenue, which should be detached somehow from the Airport Parkway as they are functionally incompatible (neighbourhood mainstreet vs. expressway).

* Focus the main transit routes on mainstreets to encourage greater use in those areas and to bring more people to live, work, shop and play in those corridors and stations.

* Be realistic. Even the most aggressive plans will still require road reconstruction and new corridors, but they should be strategic. People and goods - including buses - will still need to flow across the city.

Anybody know which planning/engineering consulting firms are doing the heavy lifting on this?

MMM Group according to the lobbyist registry (keyword - "smart growth")... although the "lobbyist" in question now works for the City

Hahaha, Walton is so funny. It's totally a glamed progress report to show their investors that "progress" is being made on their investments. If this ever comes to pass the time period will be so long that the ROI will stink. But I'm guessing Walton can produce only so many rosy reports in the interim.

Can you blame David Reevely? Gray's recent post was not only the normal cranky and cantankerous, but bordering on the libellous. I haven't seen him go after anyone with that vigour other than ourselves (skyscrappers, as he calls us) and Hobbes.

Interesting that he always goes after people who are not in a position to properly defend themselves, isn't it?

Ack - there is no story on Walton. There are too many conditions (like the Province and Feds ponying up 2/3 of the LRT extension cost?) and it can't be done with the current PPS and I don't see the new PPS being radically different. Even Walton's letter gets it wrong when they note planning application. You can't make an application for what they want.

Did it yesterday.

I didn't know until now that the city was planning a bikeway network beyond the East-West portion already announced.

Interesting article and better than some of his obsessiveness about dubious lobbyist registrations.
