What an oddly shaped building. It looks pretty cool though.

Agreed. At first I didn't care for it but it's become one of my favorite buildings of the decade. Well built, awesome design, original, great quality, wish it was in Chicago or somewhere closer to home

Discovery Channel in Kuwait to film Al Hamra Tower

The documentary channel’s show, Build it Bigger, will look at projects influencing the development of engineering and architecture.

The Skidmore, Owings & Merrill-designed tower will have 77 storeys and reach 412m in height, making it Kuwait’s tallest building and getting it into the top-ten tallest skyscrapers in the world.

“The tower leverages the incredible gulf views to the North while blocking harsh Kuwaiti Sun from the South,” said show host Danny Forster, in a statement.

“The building is made from modern steel and glass but also from hand crafted traditional stone. As a feat of engineering it stands tall, shoulder-to-shoulder with some of the greatest towers ever built. And as a piece of Middle Eastern architecture it responds directly to place in which it’s built.”

The design has already collected a number of awards, including one at the Chicago Athenaeum and the Miami Architectural Bienal.

Al Hamra tower is on course for completion in Q4 2010.

MY GOD!!! I had no idea Kuwait City's skyline was so massive. This indeed will be an excellent addition to the skyline.
