In late June, a friend invited me and a few others to visit Austin while she went through orientation at UT. The only other time I've been there was a field trip to see the State Capitol in 8th grade. I enjoyed my visit, so much that I may transfer just to be in Austin. You can expect more photo threads of the city by me in the near future.
Forgot to take the Nikon, so the iPhone 5 was used to take these photos.
When we arrived, we parked in a surface lot just out of this photo. The same lot a 47-Story, Mixed-Use Tower is now planned for.
Really like the alleyways. Also common to see in Galveston, but not so much in Houston.

Inside an antique shop:
No photos allowed inside this costume shop, but we couldn't resist the urge to take just one. :p
Sweet. Yeah, I like the alleys. They make for some fun photography at night with all the utility junk and interesting lights. And I hate that one house up on Mount Bonnell in that last photo of your's. How that got approved I'll never know why.

Nice pictures. Having that house so close to Mt. Bonnell Park is rather odd. It's one big windowless wall, and I wish the owners would plant some native trees to block the view from the park. They should definitely be able to afford to some landscaping. Look at that bank of air conditioners along the wall -there are six just in the picture.
The west side of Austin is gorgeous. At one time I had a view like those (from a condo). Then I thought I had to have a 3-br house, and lost the view entirely. (big mistake). But I'm only 2 miles from where those photos were taken, and can be there in less than 10 minutes.
Great photos...shows the beauty around Austin. On a slight editorial (historical), when looking at your photos and others of Congress Avenue, I lived there when they put the granite sidewalks in, planted the trees and set up those huge planters. People complained left and right about how frivolous and wasteful the project was. Almost 30 years later and maturing trees I say GREAT INVESTMENT Austin!
P.S. The squirrels on the Capital grounds and UT Campus are the most aggressive squirrels I have ever ran into them. Do not "fake a feed". They really don't like to be teased!

I thought it was something other than a house. Odd for someone to build there when the public area on Mount Bonnell is so close.

Yeah, that house was quite controversial. It was all over the news here. Mount Bonnell Park had pretty much been the same since the 1930s except for the view of the houses on the other hills and down the bluff along Lake Austin. That house, though, is just awful. I'd be ashamed to tell people I lived there.
Yeah, that would certainly be a really long way to see them. I guess it could be possible. The tallest tower is 1,308 feet tall. I've seen them from as far as 20 miles away east of Austin along US 290 between East Austin and Elgin. And I can easily see them around my neighborhood. There's one spot that I can walk to in 5 minutes to see them.
