Great comprehensive tour of my old stomping grounds! Butte is one of my favorite places in the US, and possibly the world. There is nothing like it. Butte has something like over 4,000 (!) buildings on the National Historic Register.

Great photos...thanks for sharing. When I was a kid we live 4 years in Great Falls. I remember waiting for my mom in Penny's when it was down on Central Avenue and looking up at the "skyscraper" 1st National Bank of Great Fall (US Bank now) thinking one day I hope to work in a building that tall.

That reminds me, of when I was a kid living in Billings, when the Yellowstone County Courthouse was the tallest building in town. I used to think that thing was awesome. I think it was all about the elevators.

Not only that, but the surrounding countryside is absolutely spectacular.

Montana is so beautiful it hurts.

I love the drive through the mountains between Great Falls-Helena-Butte.... some great memories on that road.

Stunning. I need to visit Montana again. Its been a long time. Those wide open spaces just suck you in. It makes me want to stand in the middle of them and only hear the wind.

Thanks!

I spent 3 years in the Air Force stationed at Malmstrom AFB in Great Falls....These bring back many great memories.

The contrast between the wide open spaces in this thread and the highlighted urbanity of other threads really makes for a nice contrast. This set of photos is akin to taking a nice deep breath.

Butte got an impressive skyline, caught me by surprise, hella brick too! I love this thread man, such a wide area covered. Please, you must do a part 2 when you get the chance, if you travel there often.
