It seems like a rather small turning radius. Could modern LRT cars make that tight a turn?

If Toronto can switch from its traditional streetcars to full size, modern LRVs, I would assume it might be possible to use that same turning tunnel for similar vehicles.

Part of Toronto's streetcar hassles (other than Bombardier incompetence) was the need to heavily customize vehicles to run on a legacy system).

Here is a picture of a Hull Electric streetcar. They were full sized streetcars so I expect that modern streetcars could navigate the turnaround.

Most likely, the only problem is that the canal is at the other end of the tunnel, and that might not be a turn any train is able to make...

I wonder how they did it back then...

Good Day.... spotter report...

The MSF berm is almost all gone, scraped down to putative ground level.
Just the bit at the eastern end, where it meets the current sound wall, still remains.

EnJoy!

I'll take it over a third rail. Impressed by the size of the copper wire.

Why do people think the electric wires are unsightly or an eyesore? I was listening to some guys at work complain about it saying thoses wires weren't on the design displays. One guy was complaining it was an eyesore driving westbound on the highway. Really??
One guy said it made us look like a 3rd world country. 🤣
It's an electric train, what did people expect??
Some places I've visited in the world have 6 lanes wide of these. I find it makes us finally look modern not 3rd world.

Good Day....

they expect at worst only two iron rails buried in a grassy green landscape, with trees, birds, and deer eveywhere in sight. at best self-flying personal cars over wide lovely vistas.
they are horrified that things like the PoW or Alexandra Bridges are regarded as anything like respectable, let alone worthy attractions in and of their own right.
they do NOT want infringements on their isolated, biased, everything-is-perfect worldview.
and as for wires not appearing in the display boards.... they are not acquainted with the term "planner-porn", like vistas of trees and green grass and garden verges in downtown mega-tower plans displays.

OMG.

EnJoy!

That begs the question: Why can't planners show what it really will look like? It's as though they want to leave out the parts thaat may not make it look the best, but are needed.

Just google TGV (France), Shinkansen (Japan), ICE (Germany) to see that pretty much every modern first-world electric rail system has overhead wires very similar to the Confederation line.

No problem with copper wires here.

But 11 stainless steel straps on the main post, numerous other wires, modules, turnbuckles, etc. Those to my eye are unsightly.

I've seen the TGV and the Korean KTX in person but don't recall getting the impression that Red Green duct tape-style improvisation was taking place.

The picture portrays a McGiver approach. Not a Steve Jobs approach.

In summary it does not look G7 capital city to me. YMMV

Here is a picture showing the TGV's Catenary (click on it for a larger image):

Look in the top right corner. I would say ours looks better. The reality is people remember the trains, not the catenary.

One advantage of using Consumer Off The Shelf (COTS) parts is that it is easy to find replacements with a short lead time. If you use custom parts, you need to order them months in advance. Not very helpful if a bunch of poles go down in an ice storm or something.

Wow, Hurdman station is pretty impressive! I might have to get on a bus for the first time in about 15 years and check it out! Did you take the last shot with a drone?
