Interesting list, but whatever - there are so many of these damned lists out there, and they also all seem to have the usual suspect-cities, but at a certain point, the biggest question for me is 'who cares?' I think there are far bigger problems that need to be addressed, the world over, than which city has a collectively bigger dick than another, etc, etc. These lists are not important, just click bait, really.

Most lists, as in maybe 90%+ of them, are click bait nonsense, but studies like this one are pretty important and well regarded. Firms look at some lists like this when deciding where to move/set up shop. Cities look at them for public policy. Investors look at them too.

Singapore, Brussels, Berlin, Vienna and the Aussie cities are ranked way too high.

SF and Shanghai are ranked way too low.

Osaka, Frankfurt, Rome, Sao Paulo, Mexico City and Mumbai should probably be on the list.

True, but again, the players are all the same, and have been for many years; my point was that not much changes. I think a better list would be charting the failings or severe issues of each of these major cities, and what each city is doing to address such challenges..I think to a large degree, that is a better barometer to determining which cities are more successful than others. The rankings would be very different, I think.

This isn't "most influential"...it's most influential within a certain set of business parameters. Nothing about culture or government.

Even on the business side, it's bizarre to have two Australian cities above San Francisco.

Chicago should be #1

Milwaukee belongs in the top 10

New York should be #23

I’d be interested to see a meta-list aggregating all of the various lists that exist. A ranking of how important cities are to list-makers, at least, but perhaps with enough data points it’s actually reflective of some sort of reality?

Without knowing the criteria and just making up my own for what I consider "influential" I tend to agree. "Influential" to me means leading a cultural trend that has taken hold around the world, especially the developed world but also the developing world as something aspirational. So Seoul? Madrid? Melbourne? Even (dare I say it?) Toronto?

These may be great cities in other respects, but I'm left trying to think of a global cultural phenomenon in which they excel or lead.

CNBC will be reporting to you on the Apple Global Developer Conference tonight from Perth (isn't it Perth?).

Actually, it's San Jose but I'm left wondering how many attendees are staying in SJ, what those do when the days meetings are over, and how those staying in SF are getting down the Peninsula at rush hour.

Their process for choosing what cities to include is apparently arbitrary. As are the results of the analysis.

Yea, it looks pretty typical except for how prominent the australian cities are. Both Sydney and Melbourne ahead of any Canadian city? Even one may make sense, but two?

Of course individual positions are arbitrary, but those two seem like outliers.

if anyone was wondering - the PDF has the full list, so you can judge whether or not this list is good. (your city is above its peers)
