Austin now featured in The Mentalist on CBS

The show is now based in Austin. Don't think it's filmed here, but they are showing awesome shots of the city in transition scenes. Tonight's episode had some scenes in Corpus too.

I never heard of the show. But I'll check it out now.

Really? It's in its 6th season.

Here's a story about the change: http://austin.culturemap.com/news/ar...ing-to-austin/

Quote:
Tom Szentgyorgy, an executive producer for The Mentalist, said he and other producers mulled several cities for Jane’s new locale before settling on Austin.

“We were looking for a city outside California where Patrick Jane could start over. We wanted it to be a city with a distinctive character, a city with some funk to it,” Szentgyorgy said. “At the same time, we wanted it to be a city whose architecture and look weren’t too familiar to television audiences — because, frankly, we continue to shoot our exterior scenes here in Southern California.”
Quote:
Now, Austin will play at least a small part in every episode of The Mentalist. However, it remains to be seen whether any stars of The Mentalist will pop up in Austin.

“Our camera crew will be filming background and establishing shots in Austin, but at the moment there are no plans to film actual scenes there,” Szentgyorgy said. “If a story is good enough and demands it, we’ll make the trip.”

I took the liberty of getting a couple screen shots from the episode that aired last night.

It seems the FBI has an office in the Hyatt:

....and a couple from Corpus

Thanks for grabbing the screen shots. They also had one of the Corpus bridge lit up at night.

That night shot of Austin doesn't do it justice. It was moving and vibrant live. And seeing it on a 65" hdtv always helps.

Oh yeah, early in the show, they did a shot of the skyline from the south shore of the lake, looking NW.

FYI...

The 01/05 episode featuring Austin and Corpus isn't on Hulu or TW OnDemand right now, but it's playing on the CBS website:

To us locals we know lol. It's awesome that they have the show "based in Austin" though not filmed in. The FBI headquarters just south of the river from DT.. lol. Interesting choice and great view from their fake office.

Additional Footage of Austin

My wife was watching a very silly drama called Killer Women on ABC last night involving a Texas Ranger with lots and lots of shots of Austin. Maybe someone will be able to get a few screen shots posted...I'll try to figure out how it's done and load some myself.

I was catching up on Agent's of Shield and it was featured on an episode of that show too. It had a flyover shot of downtown with a caption saying "Austin TX." I have it on the DVR. I'll see if I can get a screen shot.

Screen Shots From Revolution

This time last year it was announced on the news that the NBC television drama Revolution would be filmed in Austin. The episode that aired the last week of February 2014 featured a couple of Austin buildings that in the story line were supposed to be New York City.

Man, they didn't hold anything back on the height of the rendered bridge in Corpus. lol

And man, the views from the Hilton have to be some of the best around.
