What's the snow at Marmot usually like? I've never been there as I can be in Revelstoke in less time, and I haven't heard great things about Marmot. Might be worth making a weekend trip on a big snow day, though that highway is super sketchy in bad weather.

Debating whether to hit Louise this weekend, not a lot of terrain open and the base is still small (that means lots of rocks!), anyone been yet?

We visited Whistler today to our ski season, motivated by the huge snow dump they got on Wednesday.

We were there 45 minutes before opening time, however we were far from being the first.

Conditions were packed powder which made for an amazing early season day. I have never seen such conditions this early which is very promising. Only Whistler is currently open with Blackcomb opening next Friday.

Went to Lake Louise yesterday, was pleasantly surprised to have a powder day, found some stashes that were about 60cm deep, sadly there were rocks under so there are some new scratches on my board, good thing I have a rock board lol. Snowed all day and all night in Banff, so both Louise and Sunshine are around 30 - 40cm in the last 24 hours, amazing conditions for anyone lucky enough to get out!

Calgarian, on your question regarding Marmot, it's hit or miss. It's generally not a high-traffic hill on most weekends (Jasper in January is an exception), so lift lines are usually short and you can really maximize your number of runs. Snow quality is typically very good, so if you do happen to luck out and hit it on a good snow day, you could have stashes to yourself all day long. It's a super easy hill to ride, not a lot of surprises, but the summit can get pretty windblown with exposed rocks becoming a hazard

A friend of mine went out on opening weekend and said the hill is in great shape this early on, if they keep getting snow, should be good to check out by the New Year as the base sometimes is slow to accumulate

Blackcomb opened last week, so we were there on Sunday to check it out. Unfortunately conditions had deteriorated from previous weekend and snow wasn't nearly as plenty. On top of that it was raining/snowing heavily almost the whole day with high winds placing several lifts on standby.

Weather has been quite stormy on the West Coast in recent month and rain has been plenty. With temperatures dipping again, this weekend should make for much better conditions again, so we may head up to Whistler once again.

Unfortunately the local mountains are still a no-go with too little snow on them.

Going to Kicking Horse for Sneak a peek Saturday, hopefully that rain last week didn't fuck up what is shaping up to be epic first day conditions. They have had 407cm already this season!

Keep an eye on snow-forecast.com, they usually show you the temps on all parts of the mountain and will give you an idea what the snow conditions will be like. Any less than 10cm and I don't go, and if the temp gets above freezing on mid mountain, I stay away. Snowboarding in mashed potatoes isn't much fun.

I ride pretty much only black and double black runs, so the new part they opened sounds right up my alley. I'll have to book a weekend in Jasper this winter I think...

Whistlerblackcomb's own site is pretty solid too. Overstates the base a bit but is very honest and accurate with its current and forecast conditions.

Yeah that's pretty easy to follow, I just like snow-forecast because it's super easy to get the info you want, and it's presented exactly the same way for every hill.

Sneak a peek at Kicking Horse was epic! so much powder up top, did laps of the Crystal Bowl side of Redemption Ridge all morning and hit powder every single turn. The bottom was a bit sketchy, lots of branches and rocks poking through by lunch time.

Amazing Saturday at Whistler-Blackcomb. January has seen an amazing snowfall of over 2 meters of fluffy stuff having fallen in the last 7 days. I think I have never experienced almost knee-deep powder in blue runs and Symphony Bowl was absolutely amazing. It was very busy of course, but what a great season we are having!

I will be heading to Utah to ski in two weeks, but their current snowfall has had me a bit concerned about their season. I hope it will be great two-days in both Park City and Deer Valley.
