Sounds kind of ugly. I guess I'll have to wait until I see it in person.

This building will actually be pretty tall with 34 stories, if you were saying that this building isn't as tall as you would like. Plus, there haven't been too many new construction highrises in Center City since Comcast, really, so you should be happy with this. Besides, the economy is not necessarily great for supertall or even highrise developments.

There's no demand. Larry Silverstein can't even secure tenants in New York City for WTC3 or WTC2, and that's a global office market with hundreds if not thousands of more businesses and way more prospective tenants. I hate to say this, but it's probably going to be a very, very, very long time before Philadelphia gets another massive building. In the meantime, what Philly really needs are smaller projects like these to fill up the neighborhoods and flush out the more downtrodden ones. I'm much happier to see places be reinvigorated rather than to see a mostly empty skyline jewel in the middle of the already-existing business district.

Here's an update and a look at the glass they've installed. I think the glass might have arrived in the middle of the night last night given the amount of noise I heard.

It looks like these are gonna be some nice apartments with great balconies.

The glass color changes with the sky. In the morning it looks black, in the afternoon, it's clearly blue/gray - blue seems to be the actual color of the glass - like Liberty Place or the Blue Cross Building. The vertical grilles are a titanium or bronze color.

That's what I thought too. And I agree the glass seems to change colors with the sky quite a bit.

Now that the glass is going on, this building looks kind of exciting. I guess the apartments will have a whole wall of glass.

Yes the little corner balconies add quite a bit of detail to this tower.

thank goodness, at least in the renders the corner balconies break up the glass curtain in a good way, imho. i'm the furthest thing from an architect, but i feel like it gives the building more 'depth' and 'presence'.

on a side note, does anyone know how tower crane heights work in relation to the building they are constructing? i never really paid attention before to other projects. i see that 2116 is rapidly approaching the top of the tower crane in place, so when they raise it again will it be just above the max height of the building or do they typically just raise it incrementally? the reason i ask is that i'm anxious to get a general idea of how high this baby wil rise, as i see it every day from the walnut st. bridge.

Depends. They could raise it to a random height, say another 100 feet up or they could just raise it to just above the building height. Guess we'll see

On a side note, glad the balconies are added back in. The building looks MUCH better that way.

This thing is shooting up now that they are beyond the parking floors. Even though it's *only* 34 floors this is going to be a nice addition to the skyline.

I agree. Chicago developer, architect, and interior designer. There's a high standard for modern architecture in Chicago, which bodes well for Philly. This is about as nice as a box can look.

[QUOTE=summersm343;5788907]yes, they are images of the final street design.
This appears to be a great improvement over the previous somber Hillman Building streetscape. Neighboring church steps are a magnet for vagrants - wonder how that will play out.
