I have a feeling that it's not going to happen, and if so it probably won't be too too bad.....as long as there's a beacon I'm fine

I just signed too!! If they want to get rid of the spire, they could build another 30 floors and make the building 1800' with no spire.

Lol yeah I will admit it would have been nice if the Tower's roof was 1,776 feet. I mean if you think about 1,776 feet to the top of the spire isn't much different than what we have seen in the past with the North Tower's antenna, which was at 1,727 feet. This tower will only have about 65 feet on the former North Tower (1,792-1,727), which isn't much more but it's something I guess. I really hope the radome design stays as it is though. This is why the Port Authority should not be involved in real estate, they have a habit of making bad decisions and now Durst is trying to ruin this Tower too.

I don't think that's possible because of how narrow it gets at the top, it would look weird in a way. Yea I wish the roof height was 1,776 feet with a spire of 2,001 feet.

My Lord....all this decapitated chicken-like hysteria over a *verb*.

would (i.e. the verb used in the article): Used if the people who are *suggesting* or *hinting* these *possible* design changes actually get their way. *Nothing* what-so-bloody-ever about this verb suggests anything realistically happening...nor should anything of the sort be construed, inferred, gleaned from or read into.

will: The verb form *not* used in the article, hence my head-scratching with all this carrying on.

The building was designed to take a specific number of floors. You can't add more floors to a building. It's impossible.

Again the FAA won't have allowed that height . 2,000 feet is the limit.

We can stop with the spire now. It's getting old okay people? You don't have to repeat it. We want to now talk about the construction of the building. We can't make any more assumptions without renderings or more information about the spire. So all we are doing is just making random guesses so stop now.

Floor wise, 102 floors. (Seeing that the ESB has a maximum of 102).

One World Trade Center will be declared the tallest building in New York when it surpasses 1,250 ft (or 1,454 ft if you count the antenna of the ESB).

No it will be in the middle of the 100-101 floors, 1,254 feet.
No, he wasn't asking at what height would it be the tallest. He was asking when it would be declared NY's tallest BY FLOOR.

It will top the charts of being the tallest building in New York FLOOR WISE when it is at 102, which is the highest floor in the ESB.

Technically the Empire State Building has 103 floors, theres a mechanical room at the top of the capsule, it's kinda cool.

You can't just pile floors onto a building that would break the limit. It's physically impossible. Sorry if I sound mean, but I am only saying what I learned from studying architecture and etc, but it is the truth.

The only building I know that has been designed to take additional floors is the Metropolitan Life North Building which was designed like that for any builder that would like to add the skyscraper on the top, but that is a whole other subject.
It's fine. But I did read somewhere that the Sears was like building blocks and a few additional floors can be added. As for every building, you're right that's impossible but these couple apparently can.

Everything is still there. It is just a possible spire change, and everyone here is freaking out like it is going to be the end of the world.
