Check the webcam now. It's so clear out that you can see the Downtown skyline looming in the distance.
Can you post some of these images? My computer freezes up when I try to load them.

I believe so. Probably not until they build the next phase of the project, with the more western terminals.

^ This terminal looks great. My co-worker was doing the benefit-cost analysis for part of the LAX modernization. I think a site-visit/junket is definitely called for.

No updates in a while. Here's a rendering of the new Central Utility Plant (CUP)...

Other updates here.

Arriving daily from SIN via NRT beginning July 1-

Singapore Air will become the second carrier (along with Qantas) to operate the A380 into LAX. Next up will be Korean Air sometime this fall.

Truly an impressive aircraft but hopefuly it won't collide with any regional jets on the runway.

What ever happened to Emirates? I think they launched their LAX-Dubai service with A380 flights, but then switched to 777's. Are they awaiting the completion of the Bradley West project?

Also, any chance of some European carriers operating A380's to LAX?

Photo taken yesterday. Steel erection of the concourses is almost complete. They are working on the 8th and final "wave" of the south concourse.

How many airlines are suppose to operate the new A380 and will LAX be the airport with the most airlines using the aircraft? Just wondering

It seems from the comment below that the plane is therefore remaining grounded until construction is completed, rather than staging flight in the near future. Am I right?

LAX will be the second largest A380 hub after Heathrow.

Really? I thought it was Dubai International.

*Edit*

Nevermind. Emriates is the airline with the most A380's.

Bradley West is the largest in a series of modernization projects under way at LAX, which include renovations of Terminals 4, 5 and 6 and the construction of a new utility plant that will provide power to the refurbished airport.
Quote:
When completed, the renovated Tom Bradley International Terminal will double in size to 2.1 million square feet.
Quote:
The anticipated arrival of A380 flights to LAX slowed over the past two years amid the economic recession. However, Singapore Airlines and Korean Air each plan to launch one A380 flight from LAX later this year, while Qantas intends to add a third A380 jetliner to its Los Angeles routes in 2012.
Quote:
City and airport officials boast that work will wrap up by a self-imposed deadline of Dec. 12, 2012, but that's only when the first portion of the renovated Bradley terminal will be open for business.

After that, an older area of the terminal will be demolished as construction continues on several other airline gates through November 2013.

LAX project will create 39,900 jobs, report says

Dan Weikel
4/19/2011
Los Angeles Times

"The modernization projects under construction at Los Angeles International Airport will generate about $6.9 billion in economic activity and create 39,900 jobs in the region during the next several years, a new study shows.

L.A. County Economic Development Corp.’s 47-page report says the $4.1-billion undertaking will help the construction industry and provide economic benefits to insurance, finance, manufacturing, real estate and retail businesses.

Researchers said new jobs will pay an estimated $2.9 billion in wages in the years ahead and provide about 24,570 construction-related jobs over the next few years. The building trades lost about 56,000 jobs due to the economic recession. The county’s unemployment rate was 12.3% in March..."

Emirates never had the A380 in the works for LAX. The aircraft does not have the range at the present time to reach LAX from DXB non-stop. I believe the furthest distance would allow it to reach SFO.

Was the mid-field concourse idea shelved or something? The initial renderings had a big bridge and a second concourse, but that doesn't appear to be anywhere now. Is it cancelled or just on hold?
