Sorry for the excessive size, but that's the size the file is!

When did they start building that thing? Seems like construction is really humming along. I'll have to check it out when I'm in Vancouver later this month. I used to live in the valley and spent a lot of time stuck in traffic on that bridge trying to escape the boredom

She is a monster of a bridge. Can't wait to drive it myself when it is done.

Anyways, was another beautiful day in Vancouver, so it was the perfect opportunity to ride my new bike and snap some more bridge pictures:

First, the very beautiful Burrard Street Bridge:

(Was not sure which of the two above i like better, so i just posted both )

Up next are just a couple closeups i got of the Granville Street Bridge:

And last but not least, a few of the Cambie Street Bridge:

All pics are my own and all of them were taken today:

Last time I went for a ride it was in the evening and I nearly got frostbite on my hands, I don't know what I was thinking. To go for a walk though would've been fine.

LOL, high of -2 in Etown today, and we're all talking about how warm it is. Everything is relative.

Cool Van pics. I'll counter with some of my own from Montréal:

Pont Champlain carries Autoroute 15, along with Autoroute 10 and 20 acreoss the Saint Lawrence River between the South Shore and Quebec. For those who like the highways, I have recently posted a photo log of Quebec's Autoroute 15 from the South Shore to Montreal, available here:

Haha, very true. Although a dry -2 prbly feels better than a moist +3 next to the ocean.

Those are some nice Montreal Bridge pics.

I love the extra texture having large bridges bring to a city. Vancouver and Montreal are lucky this way.

It's so true. I love walking over Vancouver bridges. Hell, I walk over the Lion's Gate Bridge all the time and that's a real treat! The speeding cyclists notwithstanding lol.

Guys, I'm getting bridge envy. Here in Windsor the province can't seem to get this DRIC bridge built to provide a second, better flowing bridge crossing into the states due to 1 man, his monopoly and a cast of greedy politicians in Michigan who are too eager to take campaign contributions instead of doing the right thing and building a better, more efficient crossing.

That bridge out in BC really is a beast! Are they keeping the old bridge next to it once the new one enters service?

No it will be demolished. The maintenance costs were deemed to high. The original plan called for another 5 lane bridge to be built, but the plan was changed to the now being built 10 lane bridge due to future maintenance considerations.

Fun Fact: The Ambassador Bridge at one point had the largest span for a suspension bridge.

Another fun fact: The Granville Street Bridge in Vancouver was the widest bridge in the world upon completion in 1954.

The Alex Fraser Bridge was the longest and (I've been told) widest cable stay-bridge in the world upon its completion in 1986.

The new Port Mann Bridge will be the widest cable-stay bridge in the world upon completion in 2012.

What's up with Metro Vancouver and fat bridges?

You should make your way to the Golden Ears Bridge one day as well, love biking over it.

Next on my target is to bike over the Alex Fraser. My personal favourite in Canada.
