i was hoping a michigander would catch this thread

thats what i thought when i saw it!

so frankenmuth is michigan's oddball local tourist destination town.

if you don't know it, the town itself is set up in the style of a bavarian village and bronners is probably the largest christmas store there is. frankenmuth has been very popular in the region for many decades. my spouse had us stop by since its rather famous, was on the way and she had never been.

bronners is...well...almost beyond belief. for example, one of the many styles of xmas trees it had on display was one styled in republican. yes, a political xmas tree. of course no democrat tree though, or maybe it was out back in the satan section?

as the michelin travel guides used to say, bronners is definately an experience and worth the detour if you are in the area.

otherwise, the bavarian main street of frankenmuth village itself was hopping --- it seems like a nice weekend getaway type place for families.

The entire Lake Michigan coast is dotted with cool, little towns. I never get tired of seeing it. Next time you should take a tour of wine country along the Old Mission Peninsula and surrounding area.

This caught me right in the chest. Made me miss home something fierce.

The Lake Michigan coast is like 300 miles of Cape Cod that the rest of the country doesn't know or care about.

Great stuff! I see you hit a lot of the popular northern Lower Peninsula resort towns. What was your favorite town on your trip?

hmm, probably one i didnt show — glen arbor. its an outdoorsy type village for active visitors near sleeping bear dunes.

we stayed in leland, which was perfect for us. if you dont know this region i would suggest staying in traverse city as a base of operations for exploring the area — and definitely plan to spend at least a week.
