The website you sent for Precision Structural Engineering is who is on the permit for the dome in Chicago. Is that why you linked to it? I don't think they have anything to do with Amazon..

Well the builders of Amazon's Seattle domes are from the same state, different city, that being Eugene Oregon which is not that far from Klamath Falls. I'm sure there is some shared engineering "talent" between the two of them. They are not that close but I could see some of Eugene's draftsman moving down south in the same state.

But this is pure speculation. But two dome builders from the same state one doing Amazons domes and another doing Chicago's seems more than just a chance.

^ PSE has a lot of big name clients so I'm not surprised - however it does seem a bit overkill for a dome that is apparently housing an ops center that nobody in the public is going to care about/see ....apparently. I'm pretty sure there's more than just 1 or 2 in Chicago who can design the same thing......they've done domes for CNN, NatGeo, Burning Man, Coachella, etc though.

Are they doing anything with utilities there? I mean if it's an ops center then they've got to have adequate power at least going there right? I'd imagine there would be a permit for that.....??....... (there isn't and there's not one pending that I could find).

My heart is going to be broken for a long time at Johnny O'Hagan's going away. A lot of really good memories in that place.

Too coincidental, but like everyone else, I am trying to not get my hopes up.

Although, if this is indeed Amazon-related, there are two options here. Either:
1. Related has pulled out all the stops and commissioned Amazon's own dome designer in order to woo them, or -
2. Amazon is involved in Related's sales pitch to Amazon?

Maybe the dome is for an operations center for the development. But instead of a bland temporary trailer, they decided to make a dome to help woo Amazon with the idea that Amazon will be coming to visit in the next few months, and make a sales pitch and a press event there onsite with the skyline as a backdrop.
For a big corporation this kind of thing just comes out of the marketing budget, it's peanuts to them to help woo a massive whale of a customer.

Amazon could decide to start out in the post Office building as that would be ready to go for them by next year, and then while they are moving in they could also start construction on the related site and build out a larger campus there, a totally blank slate right near downtown. Although new construction would take a couple years. So they could have the speed to move in right away with the flexibility of new construction down the road. Win win.

Potentially huge residential development coming to Goose Island:

1,000 apartments for Goose Island? Crain's

"Onni Group is lining up a deal to buy an eight-acre maintenance facility site from bus company Greyhound on the southern tip of Goose Island, according to multiple sources.

The agreement still could fall apart, and a spokesman for Onni and Greyhound's broker declined to comment. But one source familiar with the prospective buyer's vision said Onni is mulling building as many as 1,000 residential units on land known for its long industrial history."
