Anyway, rode my bike down that stretch of Magazine (merchant lofts) the other day. Not a snowballs chance in hell they are opening in just over a month... They gutted the building probably a year ago and haven't touched it since.
Spoke with them on phone yesterday. They are beginning showings of a model unit in middle of October and have already signed a few leases with a November 1 move in date.

Yeah that thing will be open in November. Actually looks pretty nice.

Random fact but the freight elevator in that building actually ran off the streetcar system and was powered by steam. Its considered the second older skyscraper in New Orleans after the Maritime building!

Plaquemine Parish to get First Hospital since Katrina

The Advocate reports that the Town of Plaquemine has been without a hospital since 2008, when River West Medical Center closed because it was heavily damaged by Hurricane Gustav. However, this lack of medical care is set to change during 2014 with the construction of a new $22 million medical facility to be operated by Ochsner Health System.

The new 43,000-square-foot medical center, being designed by Grace & Hebert Architects is being built on 27 acres off La. 1 near Senator Gay Boulevard in Plaquemine.

The medical complex will feature 24 patient exam/procedure rooms, two of which will be trauma rooms, and lab and radiology services that will include X-ray, CAT scan, MRI, ultrasound and mammography. The complex also will have a helipad with the capacity to land large aircraft such as military helicopters during emergency situations.

The architect is working on final design development plans and the project is still in the process of fundraising. The project is expected to go out to bid in the first quarter of 2013.

Sorry, but the report on the realtors site is mistaken. The hospital is in the Town of Plaquemine in Iberville Parish. Not Plaquemines Parish.

That hospital is in Iberville Parish...Highway 1 runs through the town of Plaquemine.

The bigger hospital news locally is that HUD is going to back the loan to rebuild the hospital in New Orleans East. It should reopen late next year.

HUD backs city’s mortgage to build eastern New Orleans hospital

The federal government has agreed to back the $97.6 million mortgage the city of New Orleans needs to build a new hospital in eastern New Orleans.

Mayor Mitch Landrieu announced today that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has issued a commitment to insure the loan to build a new facility at the site of the former Methodist Hospital. The administration has said it intends to open the hospital by the end of next year, and Federal Housing Administration’s mortgage insurance allows the project to stay on that timeline, according to the mayor’s office

Eater just got off the phone with Laurie Casebonne of restaurant Iris, to check in on the upcoming Bywater restaurant she's opening with partner Chef Ian Schnoebelen. The restaurant is called Mariza, and will feature an Italian-Inspired cuisine. Expect lots of house made pastas and salumis. Located on the bottom floor of the hipstery, art-centric Rice Mill Lofts, the restaurant is currently undergoing a total "build out," and is expected to be casual with wooden tables and a large bar instead of the "white table cloths" and lush Flavor Paper at Iris. Casebonne says they hope to open on/around December 1.

Coming Attractions There is a new music venue headed to Freret Street, according to the Pizza Delicious Facebook page: "It's called Breezy's and it's going to rule!" Apparently, it's already under construction at an undisclosed location. Breezy's is raising money via Kickstarter, where you can also read their story. The pic came from the Breezy's on Freret Facebook page. [Facebook]

I never really heard anything serious about that proposal to be honest. But Im guessing with the city seeking development of its surface parking lots this wont be too far after.

Here's another article in addition to the one posted above about the development on Tchoup by power plant.

"A former cotton press on Tchoupitoulas dating back more than 100 years is slated to become a kitchen cooking fresh, healthy meals for local schools next year, with office space in front and 52 apartments next door as part of a riverfront development just blocks away from the former Entergy power plant."

From the B.R. Business Report:

Six area KFC restaurant properties—the buildings and the land on which they sit—are on the market for what one local broker calls "firesale prices" of around $1 million or less each. The properties, including one on Greenwell Springs Road, one in Port Allen, one in Hammond and three in New Orleans, are all up for sale by Lafayette-based businessman Seenu Kasturi, who owns dozens of restaurant franchises throughout the South and recently acquired the local KFCs from a California operator. Kasturi is selling the six properties under a sale-leaseback arrangement, which he says is the best way to strategically diversify his investments. "That way, we don't concentrate our debt and exposure on the restaurants," he says. "If you own the land and the building and the restaurant and it isn't performing, then you're stuck with all of it." Kasturi says he believes his asking price for the properties is competitive in today's market. As for the restaurants, he says they've been neglected by their previous owner and have been gradually losing market share. "But in the month we've owned them, just by fixing equipment and stuff we've already shown significant improvement," he says. "Once we get in there and stabilize the brand and remodel the stores, you'll see tremendous improvements.

Civic Theater Renderings

I found this page: http://www.behance.net/gallery/-EDR-...rings-/4605919

I assume that these are the actual renderings. Does anyone have any more info on this project? I've seen a lot of work going on but no website or opening date.
