nah they are okay.

I prefer light sandy colored buildings like those over the sometimes oppressive gray structures in other cities.

When you paint a building a light color, it makes the surrounding area brighter. I wish more architects took this into consideration.

Absolutely the most colorful buildings in the world. Jokes aside, many cities are grey as an inclement sky. Grey, grey, grey. Shanghai, outside the bund and pudong is extremely grey. But this is not an excuse for the extreme monotony of these unremarkable structures in Dubai. Dullmanship, Incorporated.

A few that I've always hated:

1) Geisel Library, San Diego
2) Basilica de Guadalupe, Mexico City
3) Metropolitan Cathedral of Saint Sebastian, Rio de Janeiro
4) Petrobras Headquarters, Rio de Janeiro
5) Experience Music Project, Seattle
6) 611 Place, Los Angeles
7) Pompidou Centre, Paris
8) HSBC Building, Hong Kong
9) Pangu Plaza, Beijing

^ I don't find 611 Place ugly. Just very very dated. It really needs some attention drawn to it since it's essentially empty. I've been inside the building. The lobby is a 60's mess of gold and marble with long white curtains everywhere. I'd love to see it reclad. I would also like to see something on it's concrete slab. Maybe display random images like The Standard Hotel does or something. It has a lot of potential to be a very successful hotel/condo tower.

Of all the buildings on this thread, these are the ugliest and most depressing. 'Soul Crushing' is the perfect phrase to describe them.

Each building on their own, is not necessarily ugly, but rather extremely banal. The collection of them as a group is soul crushing for sure.

that belgrade tower is awesome. you're just not getting the atmosphere right.

this isn't vienna, you know, or tuscany, or a year in provence.

you're rolling in on macedonian plates from pristina in the middle of the night, and everyone has been chain smoking since nis. you fucked up the exit and had to do that backwards spiral before crossing the sava. some kids in a souped-up VW polo threw a beer can at you. you're mapping it at 140 by the glow of the instruments, and need to meet your guy at a tiny café in zemun. genex means it's happening.

for better or worse, it's happening.

Hadn't seen this one posted in an "ugly" thread for quite awhile, so here it is again for your viewing enjoyment, the world's third largest, and most color-coordinated, hotel.

Personally, I like the vertical emphasis on that tower. The fins are a nice touch that adds character and a unique feature. Maybe the blank side, which actually looks like metal, not concrete, could use some vertical lines as decoration, like maybe replacing the white cladding with grey panels and add some matching vertical fins

The interior should definitely be renovated, though.

One of the ugliest in Canada: the Résidence Soleil in Laval, Quebec.

One Liberty Plaza is pretty darn ugly. What's sad to me is it replaced the much more prettier Singer Building. Bleech .
