To be honest, I can't stand this. Dubai is already a crowded mess of tacky skyscrapers, and they don't need more! It's almost as unreal as vegas. Ugh.

oh man, Dubai rocks. - I don't know how rich that place is, but that is how Toronto needs to be. But without all the financial uncertainty, and instability.

In a way I hope it does too, but in another way i hope it doesn't. The latter being that if "it all works out", my worry is that'll mean more skyscraper building binges, and ultimately, more materials wasted that could've gone to places that actually need them.

Really good video but it makes me wonder how people walk around in this city with massive freeways cutting it to pieces.

I always wondered...I've always felt (considering the money they've got) they could have constructed a very efficient pub trans system

That I understand but Dubai doesn't seem very friendly for pedestrians. Not because of the heat but aside from The Jumeriah Beach Residences and Old Town (and I'm sure a few other places), Dubai doesn't seem like a walkable city.

Why would anyone want to walk around a city in those temperatures?

Cheap Gas + Boiling Heat = staying in your cars.

From what I've heard, the projects are still in construction, but it's a wonder how they are still getting the money to complete them. Any pictures for how they are getting along?

From my understanding the 412 meter Marina 101 and the 516 meter Pentominium are on hold. Marina 101 is right in the middle with the cranes on top, and Pento is on the lower left and is only 15 stories or so, and I can't see either of those being finished at their originally planned heights.

Source.

While oil tankers keep leaving through the Straits of Hormuz there's still money pouring into the Middle East. I'd say the problem is that demand has dried up - investors able/willing to pay top $ with no guarantee of a capital gain in the foreseeable future . . .

It's somewhat disappointing how coverage of these projects suddenly dropped off a cliff - there was a time when these projects had almost daily coverage. Anyway, it's nice to see from that above shot that some of these buildings have wrapped up and the vision of the area is being realized.

Dubai, another great example of why just because you can, it doesn't mean you should.
