Winnipeg's growing skyline. Soon, a 96 meter tower will grace us with its presence in the left of this photo. The tower UC in the photo is the ALT hotel, and the 96 meter one is the GlassHouse Skylofts.
How do you know its 96 meters? I thought it would be like 75 meters. IS the flooring like 15 feet per floor than thats the only way it would be 96 meters

Ask whoever moderates the database. I don't just come up with numbers.

not to get off topic, however i had no idea what the exact height was when i made that drawing. i think it was listed at 86-89 meters so originally my model was that, BUT in one of the conceptual renderings, i saw there were two extra levels in addition.

with no solid proof that any particular design was finalized (or me not looking hard enough), i just decided to be optimistic and add on the two floors, bumping up the height quite a bit.

just clearing that up.

A dozen ships are in port, waiting for grain shipments to arrive from Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Most are anchored in the harbour waiting their turn at the elevators. What better time to get a panoramic photo of them and the city's many skylines than a sunny Wednesday afternoon during our weekly sailboat races?

And what better size for that pano than "so big I am putting it in a spoiler box"?

Our port hasn't been this busy since the late 1990s.

And a close-up of Fort William:

I had a pleasure of showing a friend from Ottawa around town this weekend.

He was horrified by the Rooms. I explained what it's an homage to and he said, "Oh, there's a reason? Wow... still unfortunate. It ruins the city from so many angles."

He was very upset by upside-down Canada flags outside the city. "You can be a separatist, but you don't need to be a dick. Fly your own flag, don't disrespect ours."

Completely agree, BTW.

He loved it overall, though, I think.

He even correctly-pronounced place names. He was as shocked as I was.

The only one he couldn't guess was the local pronunciation of Quidi Vidi (Kwye-da vye-da), but he got the everyone-who-doesn't-live-there pronunciation of Kiddie Viddie right.

A couple of pics:

I went for a run early in the week and decided to take a giant panorama from the top of Douglas Park Hill in Regina:

Smaller Version (Still fairly big)

Larger Version

You can see the First Nations University on the left, SIAST, the new University Residence Towers going up, then pans toward the downtown with Wascana Park/Nature Conservation Area in the front.

Sorry about the sun in the middle of the shot... couldn't be helped.

That F-W shot is quite tasty. Again, the geography of Thunder Bay is very impressive.

Those Hamilton aerials are dy-no-mite, too.

Cheers.
