The rules for the Ian Fowler rink specifically state helmets are encouraged but they are not mandatory. It may be mandatory at city indoor rinks but not at this outdoor one

I thought I read somewhere that they were renting skates at the oval. Is this true?

I heard the same about renting skates but don't know if they've started doing that yet.

Meanwhile, if there's a rule about wearing helmets, (and I believe there is not,) then it is blatantly ignored, just like the ban on playing hockey on the oval. Why have a ban if no one enforces it?
At least be honest about it, if you are going to let hockey players take over the oval at the expense of everyone else, just admit it up front so skaters will realize that our tax dollars were used for yet another ice surface for hockey players, and the rest of us are S.O.L. It would be better than dressing up the kids or grandkids, making our way downtown and getting to the rink only to have to turn around drive to Dieppe.

If I'm not mistaken, there is a bylaw to wear helmets on all public ice surfaces. Indoor rinks, control environment = enforced. Outdoor rinks, no supervision = unenforced.

As for hockey on the Fowler Oval, I thought there were posted signs banning hockey sticks. Who is to enforce this, I say the general public. Kindly ask and point to the sign to anyone breaking the rule. If they ignore your ask, place a complaint to City Hall. Simple as that.

There's also a bylaw to wear a helmet on bicycles. We all know how that's working out.

The Pollstar numbers are based on non-sporting events, while the annual report numbers would be all events.

I wonder if this has a chance at coming to Avenir?

http://www.tsn.ca/new-action-packed-...2021-1.1426584

New 3 on 3 league that ASM (SMG) has partnered up on. I'd imagine their intent is to host the events at ASM managed facilities.

Canada only has 6 facilities under their portfolio with 50+ in the US. Avenir is the 2nd biggest capacity behind Videotron Centre so I'd say there's a chance.

They've partnered up with TSN so I imagine there has to be at least a couple Canadian venues planned but I would think Videotron Centre might get the game for eastern Canada while Medicine Hat could grab the game out west. There are only 60 games over the course of a season so it may also be kept to a smaller travel area who knows. Still a lot of time before summer 2021 to find out though

They installed a big pool/hot tub outside of the Avenir Centre.

Just kidding. Nice winter photo from the Experience Moncton Tourist web site.

I see that they have finally installed the goal lights behind the nets at the Avenir Centre.

Quite comical to see how long after the goal the light goes on . Hopefully it gets better, im not quite sure how they have it set up. I assume just someone up top is turning it on.

Better than nothing! I've been asking about this for awhile.

I haven't tracked it that closely but I believe this is related to if the game is on Rogers.

With the very real possibility of sporting events having no fans in the arena for all of next season, I wonder how that will affect junior hockey? The NHL will be fine and obviously plans on going ahead with fan-less games as soon as they are given the green light to do so. With leagues like the AHL & major junior, where they are primarily gate drive , how will they be feasible?
