It's more of a case if any of the other towers will come to pass, or when. It's also unclear how this blank wall will be finished. I mean, it might end up pleasantly bricked, although I wouldn't put money on it.
My point was that since there are going to be these walls, the planning department should mandate better aesthetic treatment to make them look acceptable. Despite it being as of right, it should be in the zoning code.

Then if they end up being visible for years, the city doesn't become one mass of giant horrible concrete walls (think brutalism) everywhere that begins to make the city uglier and uglier.

But what's inoffensive? I am positive some non-trivial group of people will be offended by whatever aesthetic that is chosen. By giving aesthetic preference to the planning commission, one is only hoping that they make better choices than developers or the free market, and that buildings we don't like become good while buildings we do like are unharmed. I'm not sure that would be the case.

Not for nothing, but this tower is a little out of the way (in NY terms), and until last weekend with the time change, it was getting dark REALLY early. Once it warms up a little bit, updates will flow rather quickly. There's a number of towers this tall U/C in LIC and none of them are getting any updates at all over there.

I swung by the WTC complex yesterday, managed to take one shot - it appears to be topped out. It's a shame that the uglier, more barren side is the one facing the complex.

Isn't that blank side going to be effectively covered up (at least from the WTC) when 111 Washington is completed?

That big brown building with the white edges on post #113 is so horrid and looks so out of place. Wonder if it will ever go down anytime soon?

Always wondered the same. Too bad the much less hideous building that used to stand adjacent to this one was demolished to make way for the yet to be built 50 West Street tower:

I can't believe they tear down this pre-war buildings when they almost always have medium-sized bland boxes right next to them. Unbelievable. At least 50 West St. should look good.

In other photos of that old building you could see the roof beginning to sag. Along its horrible colour scheme, and the ruined base, I'd say good riddance.

Also, the brown building with white stripes is planned for redevelopment in the somewhat near future and will be replaced.
